Hey Newschoolers,
I have been a part of this community for a significant (for me) amount of time and I've always wanted to contribute something back besides just posts. Right now I am taking a class called Net Art and Design with the main focus on networks of the world. Networks surround us every where we go. Whether it is a physical network like the people who ski at a particular resort or a virtual network like Newschoolers we find ourselves connecting to others on many different levels every day.
Our first assignment for the class is to create a visualization in either Processing or Netlogo of a network we are interested in. Immediately I thought of the larger global ski community that I feel a part of and surrounds my life every day (being in CO helps too). After coming up with different ideas about snow around the world I changed my focus to the people who this snow affects so greatly. My working idea right now is a visualization of the movement of skiers around North America (and the world if there is enough participation). This visualization will track where skiers and riders originate and where they have moved to since, whether it be for skiing or not. We are all a part of this global network that boils down to one thing, the love of moving freely with the energy of a mountain. This love is something that I want others to see and understand, so here's the deal:
Please answer the thread with at least two responses, the first being where you grew up (Town/State or Town/Province or Town/Country), the second being where you moved to, and from there on out other places you have moved to since.
I'm really hoping this project works out and the visualization comes together nicely. In turn I will post it on my website for every one to see and check out and share with family and friends. I plan on collecting data for at least a week (I will let it sit more if the class time allows) and bumping this thread every day so that it can get the most exposure. If you know of people who might not see this, such as non-NS members you can enter their information as well but please don't make up bullshit.
Thank you NS!
Carson
