Thinking about getting the armada jj's with marker dukes for my go to set up this year. Where should i mount the dukes to maximize backcountry shreadliness?

no.

markers royal family + JJ's = bad news bears

they have the most narrow heel pattern of any binding on the market and have a high likelihood of a pull out

either wait for the salomon/atomic touring binding that is in the works or get a fritschi freeride binding

another good option is the MFD all-time plate which allows you to mount your traditional alpine bindings and have a dedicated touring setup when you want to unclick

what? every single patrolman that i have seen that owns jjs is rocking some sort of royal family binding. they are great
i have 185 jjs with dukes and i mounted them at recommended and i'm in love with them

i said nothing about how they ski...

im just saying if you want the peace of mind of not having to worry about a binding pull out, and the subsequent warranty denial (no companies warranty a pull out) then don't get marker royal family

there are better options as i listed

I have skied hard on my JJs for 50+ days now with Marker bindings on them and I have had virtually no problems. Given I have seen many threads in GT talking about pull outs from Marker, however, if you go to a quality shop and the bindings are drilled correctly you should have absolutely no problems. Dukes plus JJ's will be an awesome combo. Also mount them at -5 cm (recommended mounting point).

Last fritschi freerides are good for what they are made for; backcountry. They are not a good binding if you're using your JJ's as your everyday ski.

same here, i have yet to experience a problem with my jesters but i cant vouch for long term usage because ive just had my jjs for one year for one year

truth. i have only skied a year on my skis but it was a long, hard year of skiing. so i will let you know how they go after another year of shredding. thank you

Hey, I am 6'1 and weigh about 190. I am getting the jj's and putting marker dukes on them. I will ride them almost every day this winter, and plan on doing a lot of side and backcountry. Last year I rode some 185 ep pro's and the old 188 jp/juliens. Are the 185's going to be big enough for me?

Also, if i plan on touring with this ski, but want to still ride it switch, should i just stick with the recommended(-5cm) point or move it forward a bit?

I don't know why my phone decided to ahtcorrect tyrolia to thrills but the tyrolia peak 15 binding works well for me on my jjs and I mounted at recommended as was stated above

Mount them at -5cm. They are great switch at that mounting point and that is where the skis are designed to be mounted.

I was also considering this set up. Just got a pair of AK JJ's and I'm struggling about what to mount them with. I'm 6'5 190lbs. I see Provo with this exact set up in all the Provo Bros. edits and based off of the shit they get into, its gotta be a pretty solid setup. It would pretty much be the everyday ski for me @ mammoth and I'm also taking a pow trip to Hokkaido in January so lots of slack/side/backcountry. Thoughts?

Buddy of mine rocks dukes on JJ's and loves it, not sure about the whole pull out thing mentioned above but you never know I guess.
