I really really want to start kayaking, and know absolutely nothing about it, like equipment wise and such, and was wondering if anybody that does kayak has like a website or something that I could check out just to get some more information,
Get a whitewater specific boat, buy a one piece paddle, get a skirt that fits, wear a helmet, start under class 3, go to a pool session and learn to roll, boat with friends never alone. I guess you should pick up a pfd too haha.
boatertalk, tgr, mountainbuzz for forums
American whitewater for river info and gauges(waterflow realtime)
usgs.gov for local gauges
have fun don't drown, and be careful boating in floods hahaha
and it really depends what you're into, when we rafted the kennebec in maine there was a guy there that was doing it on a boogie board without a PFD. So to each their own really haha.
There are lots of women kayaker actually, like it surprised me when I started going out.
One of my new class friends is a kayakist, and he keeps showing me videos. I think it looks dope. Cruising in kayak is nice, but extreme kayaking looks really awesome. Good luck with this, looks like a great sport.
Mama you kayak? Go to Blake island with us this weekend. And OP, I would recommend going to a local shop and testing out different kayaks. That will be your best bet
