Computer Geeks - Help Needed!

I just got a new printer for my dorm room at school. I'm trying to set up wireless printing, but in the "Printer Detection" stage of the printer software installation it says "The printer could not be detected on the network"

It's a Canon MX880 and I'm running OS X Lion on a MBP
I'm trying to connect through the schools wireless network

Any ideas?

Check to see if the printer has an ethernet port. If it does; the only way to connect to it via the school's internet would be to plug it directly into the school's network via cat5

I haven't checked to see if your printer is wireless, but if it is, the reason it's not detecting is because you need to be connected to the wifi it is 'broadcasting'.

i have an mx882 at home and its wireless, im guessing yours is too but im not positive. did you do it like the manual said to? i had no problems setting mine up, it detected the network right away and worked fine

if your at school, most colleges shut down personal wireless printing, or at least mine does. They really don't want more frequencies fucking up the network.

Yes it is wireless (I'm not retarded) and yes it is possible, a kid down the hall from me did it with a different printer
