First wedding video. Tell me what you think.

Hey ns,
So yesterday I shot my first ever wedding.
I was using my Glidecam all day because the other filmer was getting the tripod artsy shots.
Here is one of the clips I got from yesterday.

I wasent really on top of my glidecam game hence the super slow shot.
I was super tired and wasent really stoked on being there.

don't tell me you're gonna film weddings all in slow motion too... you know those things actually have dialogue right? Also I have no idea what wedding video would ever fit the context of this shot, and there was a fair bit of seasickness going on. It's a good shot, but a strange idea to shoot it... were they taking photos or something?

:O i know, twas a joke because you shoot hella slow motion on skis. Just making sure we wouldn't have the father of the bride speaking at the alter in 60p....

try and keep horizon level in the shot next time, couple's body posture seemed awkward (but that's just me).

Meh, it's just one shot. Can't critique a wedding video based on one shot. I'd say start watching lots and lots of wedding videos. I'll leave a good one below.

I would also like to say I'm very jelly that you're starting to freelance/make money.

I would have stayed back more and not cut their feet out of the shot.


Also, don't make excuses if you want critique, you already pointed out a few bad things about it, kinda just makes me think you don't have confidence in your footage. You shouldn't be putting stuff up for critique if you're not confident in it, just my 2 cents.

Shooting weddings, I hardly shoot in 24p as with 60p you can do so much more with what you need.

I dunno why you'd ever need slo motion for a wedding unless you has one specific shot you wanted in slow motion. Shooting 1080p24 then shooting 720p60 when you have a specific shot you want slowed down would be my method (except id shoot 1080p60)

wel then you could shoot that shot 60p but otherwise it should be 24.

Yeah. When I shoot weddings, I try to do most filler at 60p. Like any dolly movements, glidecam shots, etc. are all at 60p for me.

PLEASE ADD MORE SLO MO WITH YOUR SUPER SICK HDSLR. I REALLY ENJOY WHEN YOU USE TWIXTOR AS WELL. For real its a wedding not a your cinematography reel. Also, be stoked because you're probably getting paid for doing that, which half of NS would die for.

Weddings are by far the most boring and shitty video work there is. But people also pay absurd amounts for it, making it a great job. You can make $10k a summer if you book them right.

you could probably make way more than 10k if you did it right. I bet if you found the right clients they'd pay at least 10k for a project.

Correct. If you're the type that gets flown to Cancun for a week to film a wedding, you'd be getting paid $15k at least just to shoot the damn thing.

My quota is more so based on people in their late teens/early 20's, but there's people who make a pretty solid living off weddings. I just wouldn't want to be the one editing them.

waay more than 10k a summer if you have consistent work.



i actually like filming weddings, i think of it as a challenge. wedding videos are so common, i like trying to find a unique way to do them.

Jesus christ your a bunch of haters! I like the shot, yah theres a bit to improve like they said, watch your line and for some reason its a bit blurry.

what were your aperture settings?

I think essentialy its a great shot, most of the guys bitching are just jelly because they havnt shot anything good in a while.

Haha you are so much more positive on the issue than I am. I haven't ever seen a wedding video that I didn't hate, my work included.

Although the last wedding I did was a blast. The bride's parents insisted I get smashed with them and trash the hotel room. I didn't partake in the latter because I like to stay profesh.

haha yeah, i mean i feel like it's going to be much harder to do a good job if i'm hating it right from the moment i get there. you might be a different way, but my work suffers so much as my attitude deteriorates.

and the free alcohol is most definitely a perk

It's definitely the same for me. Before the wedding I bitch and moan because it means I can't go on an adventure that day, and afterwards I bitch and moan because I have to edit all the footage. But during I approach it with a positive attitude and I am very social (for marketing purposes). It makes it more bearable, and my work is a higher caliber when I'm not dreading every moment. Reminding myself how much they're paying me also helps keep me in a good mood.

I enjoy shooting weddings. Editing is meh. The trailers are fun but then get pretty boring once I'm on to a longer portion of the DVD. Can't complain one bit about the money though.
