So lately I've been really interested in the audio side of film; sound setups can be pretty cool and i've started to suck in as much knowledge as I possibly can about it. I thought that because I shoot a ton of skiing, it would be best to get your guys' opinions on audio and how important it is in skiing/what sounds should be heard/what mic setups to use etc. So a couple of questions to spark some good debate:

What kind of mic's do you use in certain situations? Are you a shotgun mic user? hyper-cardioid? lav? stationary?
How important is audio to you in skiing footage?
What would be your ideal audio setup?
Audio outside of skiing?

Bump.

Looking for microphone solutions for the DSLR my school is purchasing. We're getting a T2i, I talked them into the DR40, and now I'm looking into mics. Any recommendations?

im bumping this. just picked up a dr40 and have been playing with it the last day or so, love it so far. Now it's time to figure out what kind of mic to get. I'll mostly be shooting interviews/talking head but would love to have the flexibility to use it pretty much anywhere (skiing, vacations, boat days, etc). I've been debating if it's worth it to get a hyper cardiod and shotgun separate, but I'd rather not spend that much right off of the bat.

As for mics I've been considering:

Oktava mk-012, this was 1337's suggestion for indoors-- seems like a great mic.

NTG-1, I know alot of people like the ntg-2 because it's battery powered and doesn't require phantom. I'm opposite and i'd rather just exchange batteries in one device rather than worry about both. (Plus I hate not knowing if my battery in my shotgun is about to die)

ALSO

If anyone has suggestions for cheap boom pole stands, I'd love to hear them. It won't be moving at all so I'm just looking for something strong enough to hold a shotgun. Looking to spend less than 50 on this
