Hey NS, I need some help choosing which skis to get. This is going to be my fourth skiing season. I would call myself an intermediate skier, but I can do a lot, I just don't have the best control ever. I am 5'9.5", about 130 pounds. I ski all-around. I want to work on doing everything this year. We don't get a ton of powder where I live, but when we do, I'm all over it. I also want to work on some park and woods. +K for help and bumps.
some fatter park skis that can go all over the mountain would be skis like surface double times, line chronics, bluehouse mr, on3p jeronimo, armada ar7, rossignal s?5?. thats all i can think of off the top of my head but there are a lot more.
The Mastermind would be a good all around ski but from what I have heard durability is quite lacking. I have known 4 people now who had complete delamination of the topsheet in the tail.
never consider masterminds for park. they are the not even centermounted a good all around ski would be the chronic. if you like pow then id go with the chronic because you can literaly do anything with it.
If you look at the mastermind's dimensions 115-85-112, they are very close from being symmetrical. Center mounting them will feel pretty natural on the snow as they are almost symmetrical and they do have a symmetrical flex.
The chronics are a great choice too, they are a slightly stiffer ski though.
no the masterminds are not meant to be center mounted they have a mid-sole thats a bit further back in the ski. center mounting them would be dangerous
I suggest the Armada alpha 1s. They are a stiff ski and have early rise. I own them but havent been able to try them out yet. Apparently they're very light, very durable good for buttering in the park because of the early rise. Good on jumps because they stiff and if there is powder once in a while they have a 83mm center with early rise which ill help out alot
I center mounted mine last year.. I couldn't tell the difference from when they were set back a little bit... So not, it isn't "dangerous" I would not recommend masterminds though. THey fall apart so easily..
if your hitting big stuff then they are dangerous due to softer flex. if your landing forward switch than they may snap. its just what happened to my friend, so to me they are dangerous. others may have a lot of fun with them, but i dont recommend them.
Wait so switch or forward? And its just a cm or 2. Doesn't really make that much of a difference imo. Btw did you friend fall when he snapped them? Like landed backseat and a little to the side then the snow just pushed back on them and they snapped?
Haha now. Back to OP. I'd go with chronics/alpha 1 perhaps the k2 domains? I've heard good things about those. The Chronics apparently kill the park and are still a good all mountain ski. I would seriously consider the Chronic
Going off the manufacturers recommended mount area can be dangerous in some instances - for example, if you have a super large foot and dead center a ski with a short binding plate or binding mat, the screws in your toepiece may pull out easier.
But yeah, considering for how many years people have been dead centering skis without caring, whatever.
