Where to mount k2 extremes?

hey ns, i have some k2 extremes i got last year, skied for a season at about 1.5 cm back from true center.  however, i got some new boots so i have to get them remounted anyway and i was debating whether or not to get them mounted at true center.  they have 118-85-109 dimensions and i would be mounting for a 28.5 full tilt with rossi axial (?) bindings.  i talked to someone at a shop and he said that i should keep it at 1.5 or 2 back, because at center they will turn funny.  he also mentioned that my bindings probably have a heavier heelpiece, and if i mount them too far up, i might screw with the swing weight.  anyway, i ski mostly park on the east cost, but i get in some pow and woods whenever there's fresh snow, so i'd say 70% park or so.  any opinions?

I had Public Enemies awhile back ago (basically same ski), had them center and liked it. If your going to be skiing a lot of park, no doubt you should mount center. It just feels different, not funny, and I love them.

Can you just remount the toe piece OR heel piece or do you have to move them both? I think that you're pretty much at the ideal park mounting spot right now.

i think i'm leaning toward this.  what bindings did you have? and did they still perform in pow?

I had tyrolia peak 15 bindings. I remember the first day on the center mount and going down the hill I was like woah, this is a lot different. Did I make the right choice? But as soon as you start hitting rails, and throwing yourself off jumps, your like I love this!!! Then you get used to riding with it and you love it. I did take them out into some pow days but no mater where you mount, its gonna kind of suck, there not wide enough cause there not a park ski. But in pow with these center, you have to lean back more and less control as opose to if it was farther back. I say do it, wat shop you go to, also wats the guys age and type of skiing he does?

the guy was actually pretty young, and he was fitting me for some full tilts. he mentioned that he did some urban skiing and such. what he said was, if you do mount them center, you're turning them into a true park only ski, which is ok if thats what i want. but he said that all over the mountain they'll kinda turn funny and won't be very good in pow. not that they are now, but pow on the east coast is really just a couple inches of fresh tracks in the woods haha.

^ok ya, that sounds fair. It is true, turning on them is different, it takes a lot less effort to turn them, but less control. It just depends how important park is to you, for me, it is very important. I skied pow with them, going switch in pow with these too. But if you do 70% park or less, you may want to mount farther back. Ive learnef to love it, even my pow skus are only 2-3cm back

well park is really the main thing that got me into skiing. i won't be skiing any serious pow either as far as i know, so i should be ok for the most part. its really for rails and air balance that i'm even considering it. i'd be willing to sacrifice a little all mountain performance for that. and its not like they would be uncontrollable, just a little more difficult right?

^exactly!!! I mean you loss some things, but the benifits of the feel on railz, and your balence in the air is like the biggest difference, I mount all my park skis, symmetric or not, true center for that feel. I skied real pow with them being on the west coast and did ok, so I mean the little pow you get there will be ok haha. If you want.to be serious about park, center them

And now for the monkey wrench....lol....first I had pub enemies as well mounted at -3....friggin hated em....but....I got a set of '10 chronics and mounted em dead center...it did take some getting used to but they ripped park....so long story short, for '11 I ended up with '11 cryptos and was talked into mounting -2.5 from center with the same bindings and wow....I totally stopped riding the '10 chronics even for park only days(which is what I kept em for).....it is all preference but to me now, I tend to stick just back of dead center.....it alleviates that "over the bars" feel when landing forward off something big....if your hittin the smaller stuff and jibbin around dead center is optimal but if your hittin the giant booters....mount back -1 to -2....trust me....makes a big difference....especially hittin the rest of the mountain too.

This is so right. The way I see it: mounting 2 cm back from true center doesn't really take anything away from park performance but adds so much to the ski's ability to carve. Mounting on true center just isn't worth it to me, except on symmetrical skis.

Yeah and to be fair the chronic isn't the only ski I've had mounted center...I've had lots....even center mounted bacons(which btw are a blast in the park!) technically there was like a 5 yr stretch I rode nothin but center....I just used that example as two skis that were semi similar....but the last two years, I def mount at least -1 from center but no further than 2.5/3ish....

well i guess i don't know, will a center mount be better on the rails? or will it not really make a difference. rails are really what i'm into. i am used to them at about 1.5 back, but maybe i'll have that aha moment where i love it. i don't really hit huge jumps, our park doesn't really have anything bigger than maybe a 40 footer or so.

Yeah if your doin mostly rails then def go center....jus know that if you do charge or hit bigger airs you will occasionally feel like your goin "over the bars"...

I had 09 extremes, I mostly skied park and urban with them and liked them pretty much. First they were mounted about 1.5cm from true center and weren't bad in park and on rails, then my binding corked and I mounted them to true center. I liked them much more when mounted at true center when skiing rails and jumps, they feeled like I had much more control over them when doing tricks and I wouldn't say they were bad when skiing groomers, a bit different for sure but not bad. I recommend going for true center even if you only ski like 60% of the time in park
