I have always wanted to fish this particular alpine pond in the southerns. It seemed like a good adventure in reality, but it was economical and exhausting just thinking about it. Some would say the more economical thing, would be to fish local rivers or ponds closer to home. There is no fun in that. It’s all about the adventure and the challenges you encounter when fishing unfamiliar territory.
I walked along the shore in the eerie preternatural glow of the morning light to a little beach, where i noticed a slight ripple on the water and one or two fish rising quarter of the way out from where i was standing. I rigged up the rod with a bushy dry file and began fishing off the stony beach, then leap frogged my way around the shore, mainly netting small wild brownies with a lot character and a really hard fight.
These eager wild brownies are pretty fast and aren’t afraid to eat the flies as they floated across the pond every time. As the day went on i changed fly and made my way further along the shore, catching and releasing as i went on. Opposite the boat shed however, i hooked what felt like a good size fish but it’s hard to say as most of these wild brownies fight above there weight anyway. It was the perfect end to the fishing season for me. Now i'm hungry to get back onto snow and start exploring the mountains again.
