this is what it's about. I mean connections and a schools name help but you keep your grades high (with a good class list of course)and come out of many respectable schools you'll be ok.

i'm sure someone could look, that information must be kept somewhere. basically i'm saying don't get a useless degree. or if you just got amazing grades and took super easy stuff, someone who took harder classes and got the same grades is going to look better.

Same degree = same type of courses. Assuming it's accredited. Your point makes sense for Grad school application, not really for job seeking.

Oh plus we have off from the middle/end of december to the middle of february for an "independent activities period"....I'll be going skiing for the month. Kinda unique cuz at other schools you have to balance school & skiing at the same time, whereas here you get to really focus on one or the other. If your qualified for an ivy and want to ski a decent chunk of the winter, check it out! Boston is awesome!

Either you're rich, or you took out an absurd amount of student loans for an education that isn't phenomenally better than a different good college, just for the sake of being a part of the prestige and general fart-sniffery that comprises Harvard.

dont even try to argue that montana state is a better school than harvard. sure harvard is overrated, but it's an amazing school. you're probably upset because you got rejected from community college

Your class list is dictated by your major for the most part, and your major is listed on your degree. Furthermore, your grades are listed as well-- if they're high enough, that is-- honors are noted on your diploma.

Everyone seems to be commenting on how attending an ivy league school "makes you look." If this is what you're concerned about, you should do this...

I know of a director who attended Montana State University. He lists this and "attended Harvard Business School" on his resume-- and claimed it in his introduction to his new job (high-up, high-pay director position). I got curious and looked it up...he attended a 3 day seminar at Harvard Business School...you don't even need to be a student at Harvard to attend these seminars...you just need money.

Whoever says they couldn't afford an ivy league school is full of shit. They help you out so much with financial aid...100% of need is met at every ivy I believe.

To all of you impressionable high schoolers: If you get into an ivy league school, don't give it up to go to an easier school with better access to skiing. It is true that you may not learn much more, but you will be surrounded by a LOT more intelligent people, and you will have much better connections and a much easier time getting a job out of college.

It doesn't just affect you now either. For the rest of your life, it is something that will differentiate you.

No, I didn't go to an ivy league school, but I work with a ton of people that did.

Ivy schools usually give out a good bit of money to there students. I know yale gives out more in financial aid than most other schools in the same price range

but you dont get the teacher to student relationship out of an ivy league school as you would in a much smaller student body based school. also the class sizes are usually smaller which is also good. 

im not sure if this really happens when people get hired, but i would be mad pissed if someone was choosen for a job instead of me just because they went to an ivy league school. its just not right and unfair. someone from a state university should be just as equal for getting a job as an ivy league graduate. especially if they have the same qualifications.

lol how big is the school you want to go to then? 200 people? ivy's arent that big, especially compared to huge public schools.

and its is completely justified and fair. graduating from an ivy or other prestigious school like that means that you are on average smarter and a harder worker than someone that went to a state school. obviously not true 100% of the time and im sure you are all gonna be butthurt that i said that but its true

Good point, and some schools use "Distinguished Graduate" to set appart some exceptional students. Definitely looks good on a resume.

Harvard gives out a ridiculous amount of financial aid and scholarships. Their endowment is much more than any other school. You don't know your shit so shut the fuck up. I have a bunch of friends that are your average public school, middle class kids who go to Harvard and in the two years that they've been there in no way have they became bigger douche bags.

Can you comprehend english ? I DON'T GO THERE, MY BROTHER DOES. Actually it's called scholarships, getting a perfect score on his SATS when they were out of 1600 along with his grades in highschool/ test scores, and along with all the community service, ect.

No doubt Harvard is a good school; I'm not debating that. I'm saying that its retarded for people to jump through hoops just to be a part of some arbitrary "prestige." I would rather opt for a good school near better skiing than go to school with a bunch of pompous kids in a shitty area (east coast).

Of course, this doesn't apply to all its students. Just many of them.

There are definitely more opportunities at an Ivy league school or another school of similar caliber. The networking that most of these schools provide is far more useful than graduating with a degree in your field with solid grades from a school that doesn't provide the same opportunities. While that doesn't mean you won't be successful, the simple fact that networking is so vital to leading a stable career is enough to attend an Ivy league. It is about "how it looks" because thats what future employers are going to see. You can go to a community college or some other state school and try to justify your case with good grades and a solid course load, but in the end an employer is going to take someone who went to a prestigious school that has "the name" over someone who attended a less known school.
