How far can skiing progress?

Is there a limit to what can be done on skis? If so, how long until we get there? If not, what do you think will be a key factor in spurring progression (innovative features, innovative technology)? Your thoughts?

A few quads will be done, but due to how big the jumps have to be, they will never enter comps, only for movies. I believe triples will eventually enter big comps like x games/ dew tour maybe and def the olympics **If the jumps are big enough.

Competition triples all depend on the jump sizes

You have to realize quads have been done in aerials for 30+ years already. I'm sure we'll see somebody huck a quad within 5 years

if there's quads in big air anytime soon, park skiing will be aerials, i don't even like triples, they should keep it doubles and singles only in big air, let the aerialists do their quadruple twisting shit

doesn't seem so when last year whistler broke a record for snowfall, and supposedly is going to be around the same as last year, but i agree we are fucked for December 2012

i wish skiing would flip a 180 and regress. i want 720's to be the "big" trick in comps again! Screw watching dubs, I can't do that shit, i'd rather watch something i can do so i can try to emulate it

How far skiing will progress doesn't matter. Style will always remain and theres a lotta skiers out there. theyre technically wild but they dont have style....

guys, skiing only progresses where people think is cool, if a steezy quad can be done then it will go there. and the faact that its steezy will make it different from areals.

i was thinking about this last night. i mean, a human can only go so fast. will athletes ditch the huge tall tees to increase speed? you can only get so strong and spin so fast. there has to be a maximum speed for a jump. is there a calculation to figure out the trick with the most spins and flips?

I don't even think comps should matter. Skiing is and art and everyone's style should be respected, as with artist's style. I don't think judges need to push people to do 'more technical' tricks, I think we should push ourselves to be more stylistic and expressive, whether that be to do 1's or switch triple rodeo 12, we need to do it for ourselves not the judges.

there's always going to be the competitive type of guy on the slopes that wants to be/look better than the guy who dropped before him and that is what progresses the sport, and the judges are just the guys that watch the detail of the trick.

There will be constant evolutions of style and subtleties. However, the competitive side will grow to be akin to many other professional sports: you will have to train from a young age to have any kind of chance.

I think aerials has already shown how far it can progress, but freeskiing will have a more interesting evolution due to the comp scene. There are people who could quad flip/cork/whatever, 1800s, and all kinds of other madness, but I don't think our culture will tolerate sacrificing style for numbers. In the past 5 years or so jumps have been getting bigger, so it's been possible to do a double cork 12 and make it look pretty nice. T-wall does 9's effortlessly and smooth, while back in the day 900 was a number that would turn some heads.

I think that bigger tricks are good in that they separate amateur from pro, as well as push the limits as to what a rider can make look nice.

lol he wont even try a trip. I feel like mcrea williams might be the first to try a quad. he is still up and coming and his sw trip at JOI was super smooth, possibly elias ambuhl also
