Just wanted to add a little bit to the information floating around about Windows 8

my brother has a beta running on one of his computers. and i know its not a finished product, but it looks like a smartphone OS thats blown up to a 15in screen.

i didnt see anything that was going to make me more productive or enhance my user experience.

i dont need to scroll through pages of icons that take up 1/4 of the screen. this isnt my phone.

if they can somehow figure out a way to make a desktop OS that can also function as a tablet OS i get what they are going for, i just hope they dont go to far over the edge making it look and act like a toy instead of something usable an efficient.

There really have not been any "true" innovations in computing in the past 10 years. This have gotten smaller and faster but name one thing in the past 10 years that have completely changed the industry and isn't a revision of a previous technology. They just recently, maybe 2 weeks ago, announced a MAJOR advancement in quantum computing. It's still 5-10 years away from even coming close to replacing current processors.

We will absolutely NOT have the broadband on a scale to make cloud computing worth it. Would I enjoy it if we did? Of course! But the simple fact of the matter is no company will pony up and pay for this [to happen quicker] unless they absolutely have to. The U.S. Government has been the single driving force behind new technology and they just don't have the ability, interest, whatever to bring broadband to people on a large scale. Believe me, I can barely get cell service at my house. We've had cable for 5 years. And I live 20 miles from the 5th largest city in NYS. This isn't bumfuck, it's the fucking suburbs.

And yes. Many things have. Take for example, the HARD DRIVE. In essence we're moving at the same speed we always have. Moore's law is in full effect. The hard drive as we know it will evolve and become less of a permanent storage platform and more of a transitional device between your device and the cloud. Manufacturers will not ship a product without storage for a long time. There's absolutely no way for them to guarantee connectivity to the cloud 100% of the time. That being said, they will definitely test it, and some already are, so when that connectivity is available they'll already have an idea of how feasible it is.

Well like you said below, they already have most of that info accessible. The problem is politics. I'm sure they would LOVE to have more info but the politicians would be castrated if they even brought up the topic of bringing high speed to local areas when there are millions unemployed. Personally, I think they could solve both problems at the same time. But that's a whole other subject.

I'm extremely excited to see what the internet brings in the next few years. It will be the private sector that really pushes forward, as long as politics don't get in the way.

PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS GETTING SO BENT OUT OF SHAPE ABOUT OPERATING SYSTEMS. YOU'LL EVENTUALLY GET USED TO IT. AND PEOPLE ALWAYS THINK THEIRS IS THE BEST....ITS NOT.
