Bad Idea to Bring Phone to the Park?

 I'm looking for easy ways to protect my phone cause mine broke even though I had an otterbox.

i always ski with my phone in my pocket. one time last year i landed on it real hard and had a sweet phone shape bruise on my hip for like a week. just point the screen towards you and it should be ok

If you put your phone in you chest pocket of you jacket it will be a lot safer and less wet than in your pants

i put it in my saga knre pocket. so when i sag its just below my knee. i have never fallen i my knees so i feel likes its a safe place

I figured out a way to attach my iphone to a lanyard, I'm going to try wearing it around my neck with season since I don't usually fall on my chest, but I don't wear a jacket all the time, we'll see how it goes.

i dont know about you guys but i cant just fall off the map when im skiing, i check my phone every lift ride. just throw it in a chest pocket or a thigh pocket and it's fine

if you're freeriding or instructing a phone is pretty much a must have ....

keep it in your chest pocket, its a pretty secure spot :)

I try not to carry my phone as much as possible just because i hate that radiation and shit going into me and I hate falling on it. On park and groomer days, I simply don't bring it but on pow days i usually stuff it in a chest pocket incase I get stuck in a tree well or get fucked up or somethin, Luckily I've never had issues breaking phone because I don't have iphones or any of that shit but it definitely hurts like a bitch when you land on them. same with glass pipes.

then how did people do these activites before everyone and their mothers had cell phones?

its not a must have, you just think it is.

i keep mine in my car, check it at lunch for work emails, check it at the end of the day.
personal phone calls and texts can wait, and 9 times out of 10, if i dont answer within a couple hours, that person knows im skiing anyways.

obviously that would be an advantage to having a cell phone on you yes.

however i feel the chances of me falling on my phone and breaking it are much much much much much more higher then me getting lost or hurt where no one can find me.

therefore, i leave mine in my car. im not forcing you to do the same, thats just what i do.

I only keep stuff in my chest pockets. I hate having things in my hip or leg pockets while wearing any kind of pants.

For freeriding, just to give you an idea,
last season i was at the zinal freeride in switserland with some friends, in the days before the contest we had a chance to scout the area with a guide, long story short we did a descent on the backside of the resort, a day later 3 of my friends try to do the same descent but pick the wrong couloir and end up in a village about 2hours walking away from where they were supposed to be....
none of them had a cellphone and we (in the lodge) knew what they were going to do and knew they were much over time, we gave em an extra hour or so, but then we still hadn't seen or heard of em, i even called some hotels/bars in the village where they were supposed to ski to, but nobody had seen em...

i had just called to 112 (emergency number in europe) and they had just linked me to the rescue helicopter service for further procedures when suddenly i see a skibus stop in front of our door and the three goons step out....

2 minutes later and we'd have had a 5000 euro helicopter ride to pay ...
If they had just had a cellphone with them they could've notified us or we could've called them ....



And as far as instructing goes, i give my phonenumber and the number of the organisation to all of my kids, so when they're lost they can either call me or they can go in the lodge and have them call me ....

i feel like it's my responsibility towards their parents to do everything to keep their kids safe and happy ....
and being accessible through cellphone is one of the musts imho ....

pretty much my point dude, as long as you're skiing for yourself and staying inbounds theres no real need to carry one, but as soon as other people become dependent of you or you're going out of bounds, it's no more than normal that you carry one ....

I just pop my sim card out and put it in my old crappy phone. That way if it breaks, I don't care. And if I lose it, I can just get a new sim card.

I always bring my phone with me, for music (iPhone) and so that me and friends can do different runs and still find out where each other are. But yeah, as everyone else said, go with the chest pocket.
