Gopro vs hv40

I cant decide if I want to get an hv40, or save some money and get a gopro

do you want to make legit edits? or just film with a gopro and throw something together? if you want to spend time behind a camera, get the hv40 but if you want to do POV stuff and basic follows but not spend that much time/effort filming get the gopro

if your gonna be the one to film everything and don't mind skipping features and days to film high quality go with the hv40, if you wanna ski all the features and have friends film you on occasion, go with the GoPro.

i was actually leaning towards the vh40 because i hought it might be easier for friends to film me vs. the gopro, since it has a screen and all u have to do is press record, ...i thought with the gopro, ppl might not always know what their filming

Unless youre straight up retarded, you will catch everything with the go pro.  Just pointing in the general direction and you will get it.  Ive given it to random people and they almost never blow the shots entirely

I actually hate GoPros for anything other than POV shots. The FOV is so wide I find it unusable unless you film skate-style.

OP, an hv40 + wide angle will get you banger footage. I have been using much nicer cameras for years and I still want an hv40.

Get the GoPro for sure!

1. The GoPro is small and easy to carry around with you.
2. Its easy to use and not a lot of setting to toy with.
3.Its quality is AMAZING! Film in r3 an you get awesome slow mo http://gopro.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/HD-HERO-UM-ENG-110110.pdf Look at all the specs.
4. You can NOT wear a hv40 on your head,helmet,chest, skies or film your self with a hv40 on a ski pole. but you can do that with a GoPro. you can use the chesty mount for pow dayz,head mount for park fun,get close with friends put the camera on the end of a ski pole and film them,film your self with a ski pole. heres the mounts you would need for that.

5.100% water proof so if it gets in the snow no big deal its fine.
6.VERY strong, the camera is really strong, the housing keeps it safe! if something happens to the housing buy a new one http://gopro.com/camera-accessories/replacement-hd-housing/

LCD I wouldn't worry about that. because if you use it you'll be to focused on the LCD screen and not focused on what your filming and keeping the camera steady.

gopro's are incredibly user friendly...all you would have to tell your friends is "stand here, push this button once, and point it at me" works evert time and you will always be framed, just takes a few times to know the distance you need to be from the subject for optimal footage for your liking.

with the hv40 its relatively easy to use and if your friends aren't retarded they will be able to run that as long as they know what and how you want the shot to be framed.

Basically its a wash. GoPros allow you to get super close follow cams and go underwater,,,the hv40 can zoom and frame jumps and make for cooler sit-in-place shots.

gopro's quality is amazing if its sunny outside. its terrible in the dark, and its super zoomed out when your filming. i dont know anything about the hv40

Somebody please post that crazy video montage with the kid dying that was shot on an hv40; I forget what it's called.

hv40 absolutely slays the GoPro in every aspect except durability.

hv40: not very durable at all= -1 GoPro: very durable = +1

Hm, let's see here.
Gopro: Is limited to fisheye shots only= Hv40 + 10000
Gopro: Sucks dick in low light= Hv40 + 500
Hv40: Has actual controls that allow OP to improve his filming: Priceless

not if you know how to use it, R5 is a more zoomed in setting on the GoPro.
yeah the GoPro sucks in complete darkness! it never sucks on the snow, even in flat light!
GoPros are awesome and once erikk learns how to turn it on he will also love them.

I know how to use them and it can be a useful tool if you have another camera to go along with it. Since OP will only get 1 camera, it should be the Hv40 because Gopros are far too limited in their shooting capabilities.

So your criteria for a quality camera is one that is bear-proof?

GoPros are great in very specific circumstances. They are horrible as an all-around camera.

haha seriously man...

I have an hv30 and a gopro and i would never grab the gopro first unless i wanted a POV shot or take it under water. You def made the right choice by going with the hv40.
