It's a marketing ploy. Whatever resort can get their guns on first gets a ton of attention and free advertising from various media outlets.
It's not because it's actually sensible for them to do so... It's cause you make posts like this about it and everyone hears about Loveland.
Don't get me wrong, I'm stoked too, but the fact that I can look out and see snow on the mountains and pretty much every buyers guide are out is plenty. Keep the guns off till the snow will stick around and save some water/electricity. But hey, smart marketing is smart marketing, and when your competition is Vail Resorts, you do what you have to do.
