I woulda rented some lighting or at least a reflector and an assistant. There where shots while on the street corners where his eyes were entirely unexposed. Dropping contrast woulda helped too.

Check out some of Ian Wolfson/Rex Arrow's videos. I think they do some very good stuff with lighting. It is for the most part textbook rap music video format, but that's probably what the customer wants amirite?

Also, a few other points. A few tripod shots woulda been nice. And it seemed like the rapper was just mumbling.

i think when shooting music videos, you gotta have the artist really get into it just like if they were in the studio layin it down for the first time. it will help them be more on point with their song and make it seem like they aren't just "going through the motions"

really like the song tho as well as the new color correction/grading style. few shots may have been a bit too dark IMO but i think you'll get that more dialed in the more you do it. I really like it tho

That was dope I really liked it. I only really noticed the mumbling thing in the first shot of him singing where he's sitting on the couch. I did notice his eyes being underexposed but it was only in a couple shots. At the end where he's wearing the grey clothes the sky was way overexposed and was too close to the color of his hat. Idk if you were just doing that so you could put the title in but you should go back in and tone it down a little

I like both videos posted.  One rule I live by with music videos... Eyes in the upper 1/3.  Look at tons of videos, movies...so on, even if it cuts off something from the forehead or elsewhere in the scene.  It just looks better for some reason.  This is a general rule Cine's should live by.  Obviously shooting action it's hard to do this, like skiing, or moving/tracking shots.  But that is where it's up to you to plan the scene and shoot it to death.
