i accidently deleted my entire music folder, and then emptied the recycle bin without checking what was in it......retarded yes, but it happened


sooo....theres got to be a way to get this stuff back.....some sort of a recovery program or something..

any ideas

...

If its been removed from your recycling bin, then it's been wiped from the hard drive. I think your out of luck.

short of taking it to data recovery, there's not much you can do.

Files you delete on your hard drive remain until they are overwritten, but there is an index that keeps track of where files are stored, and once your stuff is deleted from the index it's extremely hard to find the pieces and put them back together... you certainly can't do it by yourself, I'm not sure how professionals do it either.

windows deletes it immediately. macs delete these indexes and write over the files. that why it's so much faster.

^ nah I'm pretty sure both OSes just delete files from the index... I do know that computer forensics guys have a way easier time with PCs than they do with Macs, so that would also imply it's easier to recover files.

erm...you can still recover it...its not entirely wiped from your drive....its just hard...search google..you'll figure it out.

norton has software that does it called GoBack...lets you pretty much rollback your comp.
apparently if you dont write anything to the harddrive after you lose the files it is easy to get them back.

costs 39$ though

...

well, just try to find some data recovery software, you're set.


and NO windowws does not erase it automatically. I just accidentally formated the wrong drive the otehr day through windows, and was able to recover everything within minutes. It's not that hard, you just need to find the program that suits your need best.

^yeh i agree...i think a system restore might bring back the files for you...system restore just resets your computer to the date you choose...i haven't done it for recovering files but i would think that might do it.

if you have gateway you can do a systems restore to any date to get it back

those thats aid datarecovery thigns are correct. As far as I'm aware it is next to impossible to 'delete' a file without overwriting it or throwing the harddrive out the window. even then it can still be possible to trace. There are programs out there however, that do 'delete' files. they effectively overwrite information again and again 1000 or more times with encrypted garbage so that effectively the file is gone i.e: no one will be able to back track and decrypt it anytime soon.

If however I'm wrong, someone please tell me. I'm a programming geek not so much a hardware geek.
