you used to have to pay to skate there and then they were going to tear down the whole thing but instead made it skate at your own risk and took down the fence around it I believe which means little kids and what not can just wander in and fall in and get hurt + people were getting hurt just skating it
the fence is still up, but the gates open all day. theres little kids there all the time getting in the way and stuff which is annoying as hell, but we can't do much about it. and yeah, they filled it in because of the liability i guess....
yeah I hear ya on the little kids, my next door neighbor got hit by someone coming over the spine and broke his eye socket and messed up his face pretty good.
i cant imagine why a city would have a problem with a cement hole in the ground designed specifically for kids to skate in, seeing as the kids who hang around skate parks are usually the responsible ones who wear helmets and care about the safety of others. what was the city thinking?!?!
i know. no sense at all. it might be because its right next to the little league baseball/peewee football fields, so theres a lot of small children that could fall in. but. it cost thousands in taxpayer dollars when they couldve put up a sign for like $20 saying they aren't liable for any injuries and the park is dangerous and blahblahblah. wouldve been a hundred times easier....
which article? i honestly hadnt read a whole lot into everything. i just knew that the bowl was filled, and i along with a bunch of others want it empty. link?
by the way. on behalf of myself and my other friends, i am terribly sorry for being so incredibly ignorant and not reading any "fucking articles" that i didn't know about.
What has changed since then? why the hell would they just let you dig it back out after they filled that whole thing in? they're not just gonna say yes because a bunch of skaters want it dug out
i too wondered why the bowl was filled so i used the allmighty internet to find out why
find it yourself im not your mom
-the parks on school property so its under their insurance
- there used to be "pool gaurds" (lol) but the city couldnt afford that ridiculous shit anymore so they fired em
- the insurance company wont allow people to skate in it without pool gaurds so the city filled it
the real question is why the fuck would anyone spend money on a bowl that you cant skate at your own risk
well, to be completely honest with you, i doubt they will dig it out. if nothing else it would be nice to smooth it over, pave it, and put a different feature there. because its literally taking up about a quarter of the park with a sand patch.
The article says they can't afford to pay people to watch the skate park anymore, and the only reason the bowl stayed open is because of these hired people. It's to much of a liability to have kids skate with no one watching I guess.
well i figured since you had recently read it the article might still be open in another tab or in your very recent history. pardon me for misunderstanding....
i'm really surprised to find its on school property. the only school within a few blocks is a private preschool thats barely bigger than my bedroom. thank you for the summary though.
Let's clear this up. The bowl is just one part of a full skate park, a skatepark that is being used more than any other facility on the grounds at almost anytime. There is a liability issue, obviously, but all we want is permission to dig out the bowl that made our skatepark what it should be. Go and put up a skate at your own risk sign. We're offering to free them of their liability in return for permission to dig out the bowl, it's pretty simple. Oh and to everyone who has voted, I can't thank you enough +K
what kind of pussy ass skateboarders ask for permission, steal some shovels leave them there, erryday dig some and before you know it you can be skating the bowl like some old man on a directional
liked it... good luck guys, the town just closed our skate park last fall, I dont skate but a bunch of my friends were really bummed and just get yelled at for skating anywhere else in town
i'ma give this a little bump in hopes that NS can help us reach over 3k likes on facebook.
also, if you didnt already. please vote on the link that is posted on the wall of the fan page to bring attention to this.
+k to all, by the way.
