Get a wakeskate! So much funner and not that much harder. You feel more free and because your not strapped in, falling is just way nicer. Check one out
I ride a Liquid Force S4 and love it, perfect blend between hard pop and speed in the flats, and it's easy to break loose for surface tricks. Pretty forgiving landing too. Other boards I would suggests are the LF Watson and the Ronix ONE. Also, if you're getting new boots, go with the Ronix ONE boots. They have intuition liners and can be heat molded like ski boots.
i did little wakesurfing over the summer (short surfboard, no bindings, shorter rope), and i agree. Really easy to get going, even without a dockstart, and so much more forgiving when you fall. wakeboarding is fun, but this may be something you want to consider
Get a 2011 or 2012 Hyperlite Clash. They are sick. And then either the System bindings (the ones which are like snowboards) in 2012 ONLY and then a marek or murray boot. OR get some nice Byerly closed toe or even Hyperlite Team boots (also closed toe)
Sorry, Brooke, but just because you work for Hyperlite does not mean they make a superior product. All the good riders on Hyp left to form Ronix, and while Murray is pretty much a wakeboarding god, he's pretty old and washed up now. Ronix and LF are the way to go. Plus, the system bindings are just a huge gimmick with extra parts waiting to break.
I have news for you, kind sir. None of our pro riders left to form Ronix, it was actually workers from here at Hyperlite who left and took our ideas to form Ronix.
So, technically, Ronix's ideas are our ideas. We own every other wakeboard company, anyways, besides Ronix.

Btw, it wasn't some lowly worker at Hyperlite who left, it was Herb O'brien. Look him up if you don't know who he is. He left H.O. and Hyperlite and created Square One and started Ronix with Danny Harf, Chad Sharpe, Parks Bonifay, and Emily Copeland (Hyperlite pros). Hyperlite became a corporation, not a wakeboard company, and they made a smart and successful move by getting away from that bullshit.

ding ding ding.. To back AR6rider more, LF boards are legit, rode the watson for most of last year and loved it. This year Im riding mostly Obrien Paradigm and am LOVING it. Its real thin so it pops like a motherfucker, and the bottom is legit smooth, not formed in fins or anything, so it takes a little getting used to finding your edge (it does have 4 screw in fins) but once you find it the board feels so natural under your feet. Since its perfectly flat on the bottom it also KILLS it for sliders if your into that.
Wether you go with LF or Obrien, who have stepped up there game tenfold this year with their boards, you wont be disappointed. My great friend has been sponsored by both companies and is currently with Obrien (hence why Im riding it lol) and he only has good things to say about both. He has a wakeboard school and everyone who comes out riding on the paradigm love it too.
Obviously you don't work for Hyperlite, dude. When Herb O left, and Bob Archer bought HO skis and HL wake, that was when the people from the old company left. Did you know what Herb Obrien did though to get put in jail? Do you know any of that stuff?
And Liquid Force is owned by Bob Archer, he owns Connelly and O'brien too. I'm a customer service rep, bro. Don't get mad because I know more than you about my place of employment? Lol
None of that was relevant to my post. Ronix was started by the founder of Hyperlite and four of their biggest pros. They left because Hyperlite went to shit. I'm done arguing about this.
I set mine up with LF vantage bindings, super comfy if you want to stick with LF for bindings, but I have also heard that the One binding is really nice.
i actually ride a company recruit right now and really like it,i used to be all about CWB but havent tried one of their shapes in awhile (really would like to get a marious though) its super forgiving and lets me play around alot, i feel like on some other boards ive ridden you have to land bigger tricks super dialed and on point or else i will fall in a variety of increasingly painful ways. my main complaint is it doesnt have as much pop as some other boards and when you really try to crank out carves or turns super hard it loses its edge pretty easily. i also really like the liquid force watson, and actually i wish i had one of those instead of my company because its tracks alot better when carving and has a little more pop but is also fun to butter and slide on and still pretty forgiving.
ive tried a ronix ibex but i didnt like how it felt in the water. it was like the board was on rails, which was cool for jumping the wake, it also had an unreal amount of pop, like shit was just plain fucking ridiculous, it was all about going fucking huge. but it was hard to butter around and shit and felt kinda slow in the water, like it had alot of drag and when you would land it would pull hard and shit.
as for bindings you can either get the ronix one binding, or just about any liquid force bindings. as far as im concerned all other bindings are just not even worth the time or money because they arent as good.

ok look, there is no best wakeboard or best wakeboard company for that much. companies fit certain niches and boards fit certain preferences. its frustrating this thread is akin to a "best ski" thread. there will be no end to it.
Actually, quality wise, Ronix and Hyperlite = shit. If you want boards that aren't the most agressive, more forgiving, but still ride amazing. I'd go for an O'brien pro model. Last year I rode the Decade, this year the Paradigm and the Format and I'd recommend any of them. The Format was by far my favorite, tons of pop when you cut properly and use a progressive edge, and still unreal soft landings. Plus a super light board.

Hyperlite + Ronix = Made in China
I saw 75 Ronix wakeboards get shipped back to the distributers because they were received and were dented, already delaminating and even some graphics were not complete and filled with Sharpie.
I've seen maybe 15 Ronix boards come for warranty, 2 Hyperlites and 1 O'Brien, and all have sold around the same amount, actually O'Brien the most.
Ride O'Brien if you want a good quality board with great features
Not at all actually, many people who ride O'Brien boards say they are their idea of a perfect board. Now again thats their opinion. And lots of people say "oh not lots of their boards have huge 3 stage rockers like an Ibex, of super aggressive edges like a Viva" but thats where you have to see the company isn't shaping the pro models boards to make it what each customer wants, then we'd have 3 companies with they're version of the Ibex or One. They're shaped to how the pro wants it, like skis of any other sport. The pros for O'Brien maybe don't like huge 3 stage rockers or ridiculously aggressive edges. But if you ride the boards PROPERLY (progressive edge into the wake which most don't do) you'll still get an aggressive, poppy ride. All the companies are good, and really you have the find the one that works best for you (think about if you want more pop, softer landings, aggressive edge, etc..) look into it and choose the one you want. Don't go to Ronix cause Danny, Parks and Chad all ride it. The pros that ride for the company don't have anything to do with the quality of the boards.
Bumping this thread for a video. Kinda like an urban wakeboard session where they use shopping carts and irrigation in the video. Anyone have any clue?
People always talk about how skiing is only for the rich on here. There are a lot of kids on here who's parents have some $$ to toss around and send them to camps etc, but that doesn't mean the sport is for the rich. As long as you live somewhere near a mountain that gets snow anybody can do it and get good at it.
Wakeboarding really is the least accessible action sport. With skiing you pay money and go to ride a terrain park, for wakeboard you have to own the terrain park. I mean it's not that hard to find somebody with a boat and take some runs once in a while if you live near a lake but there's a HUGE difference between some boat on the water and a legit wakeboarding boat.
I still haven't sold my wakeboard though even though it's been 6 or 7 years since I've gotten out on it. This summer know a few people with nautiques, and one of them is a rep and a pretty good wakeboarder. Pretty stoked to dust the board off beat myself up hucking shit behind a boat with wake and a legitimate tower.
I've got an IBEX as well and agree whole hartedly, if you wanna go big with tons of pop get the IBEX, it also holds an edge to the point of being dangerous, will not break free. I did find it was inconsistent if I had lost weight 165-170lbs, works way better when I've beefed up 180lbs.
If sky high wake to wake riding isn't for you my suggestion is the Shane bonifay pro, it's forgiving and is solid all around
