putting a shoe lace through the ribbing on a crew neck or a sweatshirt

like on Plenty Soul Sweatshirts,
they have a shoe lace in the ribbing

if any one could help me i would appreciate it

i just cut slits in the bottom of mine, then sewed around the slits to reenforce the holes so they dont rip and get bigger

you can actually but the little metal things that go on hoodies that the draw thrings go through at fabric stores. maybe try that instead of just sewing through it

Are you just wondering how to actually get the shoelace through? The easiest way I have found is to attach a large safety pin to it and put it in, bunch up the fabric, push the pin to the end of where it is bunched up, hold the pin and then pull the rest of the fabric tight. Keep doing this till it gets all the way around.

Eyelits can be purchased, but you usually need a punch for them. Sewing around the holes before you put the ribbing on is probably the best bet.

n00b question, but is it possible to run a shoelace through something with a zipper? Like I want to tighten the ribbing on my Ignant, but I'm not sure if you can run a shoelace through cause it has a zipper.

You'd have to cut a slit to either side of the zipper and run the shoelace through. Since it's already made, you would need a way of keeping the ribbing from threading... Some super glue around the slits should take care of this fine. I prefer hot glue cause you can push it around a bit with out it getting stuck to your fingers, but you likely don't have this on hand.

Well the ribbing should naturally be a loop. For style reasons, I'd do it in the middle of the top and bottom of the ribbing about an Inch and a half to 2 inches from the zipper on either side. Make the slit about half an inch and make sure it is only on the FRONT of the ribbing. Before you run the shoelace through, put some glue around the hole to keep it from threading. Let dry, then use a safety pin on the end of the shoelace to help feed it through the sweatshirt.

DONT DO THIS.

it will ruin the hoodie and take a long time.

just use a big saftey pin and string that through by bunching up the fabric then pulling it

Just don't go through the zipper. Go right to it on either side then tie the two ends together. That way you can still unzip it. You just have to re-tie it everytime you want it tighter.

If you walk into a place like Johanne fabrics and ask when they aren't too busy, they will probably do it for you. It takes about 3 minutes.
