Sierra at Tahoe

Like it, don't love it.

If its your only option (don't see why I would be as I live in Tahoe) then it's really (really) far from being a bad place to ski.

Sierra at tahoe is going solo this year, no northstar double whammy, no vertical plus. Season passes are even cheaper ($260 college pass, no blackouts). Smaller resort compared to Heavenly or Northstar. Like 15min drive from tahoe, chill place to ski. Usually decent parks, not much vertical drop but powder days are still pretty good

The amount of young kids that slay at Sierra is amazing.

The parks are awesome, and face the sun so they are never really icy.

The halfpipe is awesome! Just a fun all around mountian. WAY BETTER THEN NORTHSTAR.

Fun mountain with a decent park, sometimes the maintenance is pretty slack. Lots of good trees and some fun drops. A bit more protected from the wind then Heavenly. About a 25 min drive from SLT but the drive can take forever sometimes.

Everyone who has posted above me is on point. The park is usually manicured to perfection and the medium size features have their one chairlift so u can hot lap it. Smaller mountain but when the gates open on powder days they have some awesome terrain and tree skiing. If Alpinemeadows wasn't offering 3 mountains for the same price I would definitely be going back to Sierra. Cool vibes to it.

this is by far the most accurate description, drive can be anywhere from 20 minutes from south lake to impossible depending on conditions


sierra has an awesome and my favorite vibe, but to be honest a lot of us who ride there expected a fair amount more and were let down this last season in terms of how committed they were to having good parks

Please explain. I thought their jumps were on par with northstar if not better and they have a decent amount of rails/boxes relative to mountain space allocated to the parks. Best place to learn tricks in my opinion because the jumps don't fuck you over by being speedily slapped together.

Parks are always good, and theres good pow stashes to be had if you go searching. One of the few resorts that doesn't clean out between the trees so there's tons of good jibs and drops throughout.

it was mostly the park/cat crew that let us down.

ally was shut for the entire day on more than a handful of occasions for no apparent reason, along with upper bashful. many times it seemed like the reason was it snowed three inches mid-week and noone in the park crew wanted to pick up a shovel

and if it wasnt bad enough that the jumps looked to be groomed by someone who was working with a cat that had no headlights, with the size of the jumps in ally, those things belonged in the progression park. speaking of which, wtf? replace the original park on the bunny hill with the progression park halfway through the season so you can't circuit through upper snowshoe->ally->bash->bunny then back to grandview anymore? right..

and youre correct, sierra does have an ample amount of features. some are really sick, like the two new DFD's they built for free flow. unfortunately many of those features spent too much time sitting in snow next to trees in the side of the park (that amazing down-flat rail that wasnt put up until april) or got ran over by a retarded cat driver and destroyed (the new DFD box).

and come on, their jumps are on par with northstar? thats just silly. northstar has been blowing sierra out of the water for a while now. i know people who would slap you for saying that, and seriously i can send someone over

don't get me wrong, i had some really fun days at sierra this year. was my favorite mountain growing up and i want the best for it. if you go there for a day, you'll likely have a dope time. but honestly i was just expecting a whole lot more from them this year and i know there are a lot of people in that same boat



spark notes: bring back the upper main park!

One other comment on Sierra....if its windy, Sierra is a great place to go for visibility and trees that knock the wind down.

I've skied Sierra for 6 years, and that says something in itself. It's never too crowded unless you go on weekends and its a really well rounded mountain. The park features are pretty small in general though, and all the parks are suuuppperrr short except for Bashful, and that one is in the shade 24 hours a day. The mountain isn't steep enough for great off trail skiing, but there are some pretty sweet places to find. Overall, its a fun place to go but its not a challenging place to ride. I think I'm gonna do Kirkwood/Alpine this year...

personally i like the tahoe better cuz you can pack alot of people(MORE BITCHES) in its and have a banger sound system but sierra are good as well if you want a pick up to look gangst in
