Hooking up a gaming console to a macbook pro

do any of you guys know how to use the macbook pro as a monitor for a ps3 or xbox360? I looked into something called eyeTV and it got decent reviews, but I wanted to see if anyone here had any input. thanks

the ps3 has hdmi and some xboxes have hdmi as well, some just have the standard component cable deal.

just buy a mini monitor and a car battery? hdmi out or video out to the monitor.

natively it can't be done i thought.....The 27" imac can, but it needs this expensive converter.

Thunderbolt is completely capable of the task though

we have both hdmi and regular av cords.

it's for my brother, he's in another country, but doesn't have a tv. when it rains I guess there isn't shit to do haha

i dont know how adept you are in video stuff. so i'm just gonna start from the basics.

you cant use the mini display port, because thats an "out".

ok. so in theory..

using the HDMI output from the PS3, you can get an HDMI to firewire. which is a video input to your mac.


then you would need some sort of media server to stream the video from the ps3.

Laptops don't have a video input of any kind i thought?

Which would make this impossible?

I'd be pretty surprised if somebody figured it out.

and I have reports of people using another device via usb (mainly for watching cable tv on their laptop, but the thing also has an av input).

its still not gonna be directly connected to the screen but rather interpretted by the computer, meaning theres gonna a large amount of video lag making playing video games nearly impossible.

you might just wanna buy a computer monitor with hdmi input... they only run about 150 bucks nowadays
