Jobs Speech

so did anyone on here watch the jobs speech that Obama gave last night? I was waiting for a thread and nothing ever came up so here it is.

I felt that it is just a bunch of bis, he is getting ready for 2012, he made almost the same exact plan in 08 and then we find out that "shovel ready wasnt as shovel ready as we thought".

On the other side i think it could be a good and semi effective plan, with my father working in the construction industry i can tell you for a fact what happened in PA, the same company got the highway contract that always does, where my dads bosses brother works, ya weird connection i know, but they got the contract like they do all the time and just brought back workers they had laid off for the winter, now im not saying that is a bad thing that they got to work again.

I just want to see some actual NEW jobs created, and help for the long term unemployed, there are some very educated people out of work right now and it sucks to see someone with an MBA in finance or a masters in engineering getting denied unemployment. but i am all for cutting it from the assholes who arent looking for jobs, and just collecting a check.

Southern Maine unemployment is so bad right now. Somethin like 83% of umaine grads degree takes them outta state. NH is the only jobs when the summer is over

The only thing that makes sense is what he wants to do with social security. I mean fuck why are we paying into social security.. we wont see any of it anyways. Stop taking a bunch of money out of paychecks and putting it in social security, just take a little bit out and keep money in our pockets. Thats the only part that made sense to me. Other than that Obama is campaigning for 2012 and his plan still sucks dick for the most part.

I've got a simple idea.

You want to collect unemployment, fine. You spend 4 hours a day on job search and 4 hours a day doing volunteer work. Your try to find work and you continue to work. The increase in volunteers not only helps to achieve social goals and could reduce our need for some government programs but also develops skills in the volunteers. In addition managerial jobs would be created by the need to manage volunteers. You don't want to volunteer, fine, you just don't get a pay check.

I am really annoyed by how Obama urges congress to pass the bill right away. I think we need to discuss what will work and what won't instead of forcing something through.

thats the worst part of Obama for me. He fails to acknoledge that there are many sides to these issues. He doesn't want an open debate on each issue. He makes his claims as if there is no other alternative. Anyone who wants open discourse is out to hurt america.

Woozy. While I agree that staying unemployed is economical for some people. But if you have an MBA for example which takes at least 6 years depending on the school. And cost around 100k. And that is probably even more now. Would you want to take a job for 500 a week. But that 500 is just enough to keep your family from being underwater every week.. So then you should tAke it but then you have less time to look for a job that pays even half of what you were making before. Since you will be working you can't go on interviews or have the time to apply for jobs. Now there are the people who love being unemployed and don't look for work but trying go find those people is the problem

In addition to encouraging people to stay unemployed, there is another negative impact that people need to think about.

My wife and I ran our own Recruiting (headhunting) firm, specializing in Accounting and Finance professionals. Employment gaps on a resume are a Red Flag to employers. The bigger the gap, the bigger the Red Flag. When people collecting unemployment decide to restart their employment search, they are going to find that they are about as marketable as Amish Automotive.

Such a great idea. At least it will be a deterrent for people to live off of the state. Unemployment is to supplement you while you're looking for a job. I fucking hate how people abuse that system. Why shouldn't they e volunteering or something getting pAid to blaze all day and play tiger woods? Shit where do I sign. Instead they make it a beauracratic nightmare to get on if you need it so it literally isn't worthwhile at all unless your unemployed mad long. if I lose my job and want unemployment it will take me like three weeks at leat just to start having money coming in. IDE have a job by then wtf? In other news I just got one of those rare decent jobs left:) fuck ya so stoked.

i know there is this and that but i honestly dont know how you can criticize politics (of course those that arent corrupt or lazy).

but if someone tries something and to me obama does that, idk..

its impossible to satisfy anybody, hell its even impossible to satisfy half of the people.


imo, the US (and europe too) need a totally new political system. i dont say that "our" multiple party system doesnt have its flaws, but that 2 party thingy is kinda outfashioned by now.

maybe we need to invent something new, a totally new system. we face new challenges and these wont be properly attacked by systems which are over 100 years old or older.



and you guys have to calm down on that "socialism" issue. obama would be a mid-right kinda guy in most european countries.

This won't solve the problem obviously, but one thing the government could do to encourage job creation is to tax companies that pay overtime.

Obama's take on jobs has been outrageous.  His new jobs proposal goal is to get him re-elected.  He has gone on two re-election tours already.  DO YOUR JOB DAMNIT!!!!

You absolutely cannot solve unemployment through government spending.  The only way government can have an impact on unemployment is through creating an environment that encourages business to expand and hire.  There are so many regulations on business right now they are unable to expand.  Stop with the infrastructure, shovel ready jobs and give the people what they want!!!! What happens when the road work is all completed?  All of those construction workers are back out of a job.  He needs to get this right, and fast. 

Its all the conservatives fault.  SMH (sarcasm meter just broke)
