Obviously I am gonna throw Rakim up there as my number 1 choice.
When Em was on his Slim Shady shit lyrically he was untouchable. Many times listening to a verse you can catch him rhyming 6 or 7 syllables, shits nuts.
G Rap was always on another level with the way he shoots out multis in every song. Same with Rugged Man, Lessons is still one of my favourites.
I always thought Edo G had strong lyrics on his verses.
But even for all time there are lots of guys that started late 90's or 2000's that can go on the list too. Like for me Action Bronson, Planetary, Diabolic, Elzhi could all be included on there. Maybe even Evidence and Ap too
Quoting cobra_commander for emphasis. From another thread...
"I think we also need to step back at look at the mother fucking context. You were at a fucking MACKLIFUCKINGDICKSUCKMORE concert. GANDOLF brings up a good fucking point. He fucking sucks. ooo! look! it's a white guy talking to music, trying to make hipster observations about life. oooo! Go fucking listen to some disturbed or something. Now that is music you can kill someone to."
lol @ the convo about macklemore. he's not bad...he just has a super different style than most people. he's so different from others that it's hard as fuck to compare.
as far as talking content...this song blew my mind. some of my favorite lines in all of hip hop.
I would say that Immortal Technique is in a league of his own. Some of his songs are fucked but strictly as a lyricist he is quite diverse and truly a talented fellow.
But otherwise, in no particular order:
Guru cz he was just a genius
Rakim, ahead of his time
Nas, storytelling and originality like no other
Big L, fast and clever
Immortal Technique, amazing storyteller, can say anything in a rhyme
guru and Big L are definitely in my top ten but i think you could have chosen a better lyric to portray Guru's awesomeness. but moment of truth is my favorite gangstarr song so i still dig it haha
i know he's in here a lot but shad. seriously, he fucking slays
if you only listen to 16 seconds of this listen to 0:51-1:07
in my opinion, the most technical of all lyricists.
"i will pull out the glocket /
clear the blockit /
when i cock it /
get laid and played outta pocket /
wit a rocket in ya eye socket" =multisyllabic rhyming at its pinnacle. and the way he can control his breathing throughout the every single verse is incredible.
you have zero fucking clue what you are talking about man! i hope to god you are trolling! you cannot dis g rap and consider yourself knowledge about hip-hop, you just can't! you dun fucked up big time
dude his lyrics are probably the most complex I've ever heard. Its so hard to even comprehend them by listening. If you read through some of his songs you'll see just how crazy his word play is.
yeah, i have other mcs i really like, but gurus abilty to rhyme is rediculous. always speaking truth, not jus making shit up that rhymes and doesnt make sense, but it still rhymes
