HELP: Quality Issue With My Camera

Ok First Im Using A Powershot sx30is

Before U say anything iknow its a shity camera but the quality shouldnt be this shitty

i exported it with quality turned up all the way

and its still bad



and heres another video NOT BY ME taken with this camera

This, most likely when you exported your footage the editing software automatically toned down the quality.

First I upload my videos to IPHOTO
then import them to FCP (but they look like shitt)

when i export i turn the quality notch up to best

Your video isn't HD, did you record in HD? did you export in HD?

i exported it in HD filming theres no HD settings idont think
it looks HD on the computer then when i import it to iphoto it loses all quality

you need to just click and drag the clips from your cameras sd card to your desktop, dont use iphoto

try what evan suggested. really, there's no need for you to 'import' your clips at all. skip importing clips, i avoid it unless i have to. just drag and drop the clips from the card onto your computer, then you can encode them once they're on a hard drive

at what point does it become crappy?

when it plays back on your camera, is the video a rectangle or a square?

when you drag and drop the files on your computer then play them, are they rectangular and do they look HD?

when you bring them into your editing program do they still look HD?

They are HD on the camera its a square

it becomes crappy right when it gets on the computer

Sounds like you're not recording in HD... HD is not a square.

bingo.



if i had to guess, sport mode might mean more fps. so maybe it bumps it up to 60fps or something, but brings the resolution down to something below HD

chances are your project settings either aren't set to HD in your editing program, or you aren't exporting in HD. glad you were able to figure out how to film in HD though!

FCP is usually spot on when getting the video settings of the clip.  When you export however,  you can export an HD file by using specific settings and sizes...if that makes sense.  Just search on youtube how to export HD video and you will find the right export settings to make your video quality really pop
