So there is a ton of rumors and speculation that they hinder the fit and performance and the flex of the boot...any truth to this

For all I know, false.
Since they are removable. They're just cable covers, lots of other Full Tilt boots come with cable covers. Nothing technical.

The covers screw up the covers?
They don't effect the flex, fit or performance. They're just there for show n' swag

You might have to readjust the cable if you want them in the slots. After awhile though, you'll get used to it

wow, that was some un legit posts that are not true. The t-wall cable covers actually do limit the performance of the boot. They are so thick that it is impossible for the cables to fit in the slots of the tongue like they are supposed to to provide an even flex.
Sparknotes: whats more important to you, style or fit.

It's truth, unless you're really carefully when put the boot on the cable squishes together and ends up with two cables in one slot on the tongue which changes the flex and the boot. Also, even if you are careful the cable really doesn't fit into place properly. If you ski with it, then ski without it them (which I did, I used them for about 3 weeks, then never put them back on my boots) you'll notice the difference and much prefer the boot without the cable cover. It really comes down to the cable just not fitting into the grooves on te tongue properly.

I apologize.
I didn't realize how thick they were. I never found a problem with the cable covers on my First Chairs. I know they are very different.
I removed my covers any ways. Much much easier.
