Study Abroad in Australia?

I've been looking to study abroad in Australia or New Zealand. I have to make a decision soon because the deadline is coming up. I'm looking for a school where i will get the best experience. I'm planning on taking mostly gen eds there. I definatly want to be on the Ocean. So far I've been looking at Griffith University, James Cook University, and University of Wollongong. All of them are in Australia. Any suggestions/recommendations will help. +k for helpful responses, Thanks.

i dont know where those schools are but i took a trip to australia back in 2008. its a pretty sick place. i stayed on the east coast. went to sydney, surfers paradise, brisbane, gold coast, and cairns.

i had a blast and im sure you will too. there is no skiing though.

i would deffinately take advantage and do it.

That's awesome dude, I hear most of the attractions are along the eastern coast. I'm leaning towards Griffin which is on the Gold Coast. Might try to go somewhere near Sydney as well. Thanks for the input.

All the major cities are within reach of decent coast.  The best weather year round is Brisbane/Gold coast and above or Perth (west coast).  The best schools are pretty spread.  In Brissy/GC you've got Griffith, Bond, UQ and QUT.  In Sydney you've got UNSW, USyd plus a bunch of others.  UWA in Perth is worth a look too.  Melbourne has the added advantage of being close to the snow (inb4 hate on Australian "snow") in the winter as well as decent surf.  Schools in Melbourne to consider would be Melbourne Uni, Monash (my school), RMIT, Deakin and LaTrobe.  I guess it depends on what you're looking to get out of your time man. If you're after the quintessential Aussie experience ie. feeding crocodiles, mad surf and drop bears then Queensland is probably the way to go.

yeah bro. gold coast is a blast and there is so much to do. its an awesome place to be and i think you'll love it.  whatever decision you make, you wont regret. how long will you be down there?

This exactly. Great overview of Australian Uni's.
Except Queensland is really hot and muggy during the summer months, but the weather is great all year round from what I'm heard.

Also depends on what course you want to study for which Uni is the best.

GOLD COAST is where you wanna live for these reasons

cheeper
a lot warmer weather
no traffic
a lot more females and hotties too
more beaches
waves
and good times

The University of Newcastle is pretty sick.
Aside from that Newcastle is a rad place to live. Heaps of beaches and a pretty laid back lifestyle.

If you really want to hit Sydney up it's only a 2 hour drive south.

I studied abroad this summer through the School for Field Studies, an environmental study abroad program. I spent 2 weeks in New Zealand and 2 weeks in Australia. PM me if you want more info.

yeah sorry dude, Griffith is in Queensland.  The only problems with Queensland, as B said, it can get ridiculously hot/humid (could also be a positive), it's shit far from any snow and if you get around in boat shoes you may get clocked.

I'm studying abroad in Melbourne right now and it's amazing. I can't find a way to get to any mountains though which is a shame but it is still a blast.

One kid I work with did that. Not sure what school he went to or what he was studying, but he said he did a ton of stuff. Like bungie jumping, sky diving, snorkeling/scuba and that kinda stuff. Sounded fun. Educational? Maybe.

That's the plan lol, switchin it up a lil bit. My roommate told me there's alot of poisons/deathly sea animals in Australia. Anyone have any info on this?

Dont sweat it man. its all hyped up. you do have to be more careful than say here in the US.

I spent 3 weeks there. i only saw one yellow bellied black snake just chillin off one of the trails. everywhere else they were just in the zoo (of course). we also took a river tour in upper queensland and saw some gators and crocs. and we went in the winter (january) and that is when the box jellyfish are out. their stings trigger a heart attack.

the most common thing is crocodiles most likely and they usually hang on the coast. there favorite spot is at the mouth of rivers connecting to the ocean. 

the biggest this is common sense. obviously dont walk up to it and disturb it. you just have to be cautionous when walking around in the wilderness or water.

Don't worry about them at all. If you are really worried about poisonous sea creatures it's probably best for you to go down South where you can if you want to swim in the sea all year because there are no Box Jelly fish. Apart from them you are very unlikely to see anything else poisonous unless you play in the rockpools or pick up pointy shells. I've lived here my whole life and only every seen a couple of poisonous octopi and they were in rockpools.

I'm currently studying at the University of Auckland in NZ. It's really cool here apart from there is no real campus and its just building in the middle of a busy as city,  but if you want a good education then it's the best in NZ. If you want to experince a good student life go to the University of Otago in the south island. It's heaps closer to the mountains too

Otago are animals on the turps.  When we played them they had 20L of wine on the sidelines and were subbing players on and off so they could finish the wine before the end of the game.  Then afterwards a cop came to tell them off for drinking in a public place.  Inside 3 minutes they had the cop doing a shot gun.  Get around them.

Go to NZ bro.  I'm here working and traveling now.  It is really beautiful here no doubt.. I've gone up the east coast and am now in Darwin to save up some money to take a flight to Bali and visit some other Indonesian islands.  But if you want different culture or pretty much any new way of life you won't find it here.  It's just like the states.  Well piss.. Nz may be like the states as well.  You will have wayyyyyyyy more gorgeous scenery in Nz though I can't wait to go.

I'm currently studying abroad. I'm not exactly in a good academic school but it's still extremely fun. I've spoken to tons of Alma Maters and they said that even if you didn't go to a good school companies like that you have been to different countries. It's also a ton of fun. I'm in Tokyo and I have to say probably the best thing i've done since well... never.
