Newschoolers,
Wanted to check in with you guys, as I know it's been a while. I wanted to
write to you guys today specifically because I have received a lot of feedback
good and bad about my choice to work for Nike. I want all of you to know that
if I didn't feel Nike was 100% committed to our sport for all the right reasons
I wouldn't be here now. For those of you who don't know… I came on as a team
manager with Nike while doing my filmmaking gig per the recommendation of Sammy
Carlson who was the first Nike ski team member and one of the first athletes
brought onto the Nike action sports program. I think that right there says a
lot that when 6.0 was first introduced they had a skier included on the roster.
They did not do this to squash out the small ski companies or try and rain on
anyone's parade. They did it because when they took a look at action sports and
who the sickest young athletes in those sports were Sammy Carlson was on their
map. I personally think that it's pretty rad that a company that is known to
our generation because of names like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Bo Jackson
and Tiger Woods would look at a kid like Sammy and say “That's the kind of
athlete we want to build our business off of”.
Love it or hate it Nike is committed to all sports for the benefit sport has on
social culture and to speak to some of the more negative feedback I have
received… I work here because the people I work with are part of the culture of
action sports. Whether it's skate, surf or ski the people I work with do it as
hard as they can whenever they can. We have the opportunity as a brand and as
this great community on Newschoolers to elevate participation in skiing on a
global scale, which is good for everyone.
If you're feeling me please head over and 'Like' our newly started Facebook page
which will be dedicated completely to Nike Skiing.
