Anyways I'm glad I painted mine up, they looked dope. You can see em here when they were fresh, and that was a year ago:

So obviously they have been shredded up pretty good. I took them down right to the bare shaft with aircraft paint stripper, then used a spray gun to get them to the way they looked. I put lots of time into the paint job and made sure to do a professional prep job before and during the paint process so that it would stick, but paint will never be as durable as a factory coat unfortunately.
That's two light coats of primer, three layers of base white, two layers of green, and 3 layers of clear.
I also ride like 90% park so they get chucked around, edges smacked into them in the air, they get turned into javelins, so I think that's a pretty good reason as to why they look the way they do.
I may take them back down to bare aluminium, and use a chemical etch and treatment on them next time around. Paint will stick way better, or I could leave them after the treatment for a cool gold/metallic blue colouring... Hmm...
