How do you get in a frat? Im gonna be going to university in the next couple years and just wondering how the whole thing works. Is it really as cool as american pie? but seriously frats seem like a good ol time.
Lol the Southeast is so fucking crazy and expensive on frats. some of the best frats from school to school for partying are sigma chi, pike, and sometimes sigma nu and pong
You have to pledge. Which at most school means getting harassed and physiologically tormented for 8 weeks. Its pretty much a bunch of upper class man fucken with you as hard as they can to see if your strong/stupid enough to stick it out.
I once saw a kid throw up in a glass while being forced to drink something gross and they made him drink the entire cup of his own puke.
theres a thing they all have called rush and u go sign up with them and do shit for them like be a beeper for a party and also some of the stupid shit on tv or anything else they need done (like on campus the other day i saw a kid riding around on a bike in a big ass gorilla suit) but u also gotta get into the frat they dont just take everyone but all in all the whole frat idea is stupid unless your in a really legit frat that will help u get jobs in the future
honestly, frats are a regional thing and at many schools don't mean shit. I went to UD and I'd say that sports teams and rando party kids held more social clout.
It matters what school you are going to, the fraternities will differ at every school. Rush around and make sure you get to know the guys at every frat. You don't want to end up in a frat full of douchers that haze you all quarter. You wanna end up with guys that fit your personality best, and make sure you're comfortable in the place. It's a great time.
I went to WSU and didnt know a soul when i started. Being in the greek community, even though i wasnt all that involved, helped me almost instantly gain a shit ton of friends and acquaintances. Whenever i wanted to do something social(not neccesarily party) i had a bunch of other people who were down, and always had girls to go with.
Every frat, at every school is different, so make an informed decision.
There are gonna be dbags and cool dudes in every frat, just like with any large group of people...but I personally met my two best friends through my frat, like they are closer to me than my blood family.
the "life advantages are over rated, but what frats really are good for is teaching you how to socialize well with all sorts of folks, in all types of situations. And you dont have to really work at a social life, because you have opportunities to do shit(again, not neccesarilly drinking: cant stress that enough) all the damn time. The biggest advantage of university educated people is their social education, not neccesarily the academic education. I have met a lot of smart, charismatic people who were just socially retarded at times, because it was the first time they had been in a specific situation. The greek community gives you the opportunity to experience nearly every thing.
I recomend to everyone to check out their schools frats, and worst case scenario is you get a bunch of free diners out of the deal, and dont join any of them. You def dont have to be greek to enjoy the hell out of college and have a great social life, but it is worth checking out if you are even a little bit interested.
brendan don't do it. been there done that. not worth it. too much money for too much effort with very little payoff and only 10% of the people in the frat you end up hanging out with after. stupid as fuck.
It completely depends on which school you're at. And don't listen to the dumbasses who tell you that all frats are douchey, just rush some frats at youre school, if you find one you really like and feel at home at then join it.
I'm in a frat and its been so much fun and I've made a ton of my best friends through greek life.
