i just got back from spending the weekend in chester vermont so i got to see some first hand damage. it was terrible.

loved the video, sent a real strong message showing the hope and strength people have. hope everyone you know is ok.

It's weird that getting hit by a hurricane makes you realize how much you depend on power. I spent the whole week turning on light switches by instinct and checking the fridge every half hour like i normally do.

Not to be a dick... but Irene is a little baby compared to some other recent natural disasters. Take March 11th by chance. Try losing everything you own. Along with 14000 people swept up by a tsunami. Pretty sure Irene has taken less than 100 lives.

Video is nice though. And the destruction is certainly sad.

Im right with you on the whole government thing. Im sick of the media and government treating minor problems as huge ones, however i think you need to chill out. just because less people died than previous natural disasters doesnt mean it is ok to mock those who are now homeless. irene was a little baby, but the flooding she caused was not so baby-like.. and i would rather not be homeless come winter, like many vermonters may be.

I was in Londonderry.  Felt good to help, but I couldn't help feeling like no matter what I did it wasn't going to be enough there's just so much to do.  It hit me hardest when I was pulling down sheetrock and insulation inside and I looked outside the window and the owners of the house were trying to dry out what very little they had left in the yard- mostly pictures and such- and to think that's literally all that remained of their lives killed me.  It looked like the world's smallest tag sale and it broke my heart.

Great vid OP.  Really well put together, tell your friend nice work and keep spreading the word.  Vermont needs all the help it can get!

Dude, nobody said anything about that not being terrible.  It's not a debate thread.  Last time I checked the whole world turneed out to help with the Japanese tsunami as they should, but most people have no idea VT got ht as hard as it did and are just preoccupied with inconvenienced Manhattan hipsters and bloggers so yeah, awareness about VT's situation is pretty important imo.  So please, take your competitive disaster argumenative process and get the fuck out.

It's all relative...

If it was houses in your community that got swept away and destroyed and you were trapped with nowhere to go for days on end, it would be a big deal to you.

This is not the place, nor time to debate which disaster is bigger. Bottom-line is people in MANY communities around the world have had their lives ripped apart by disasters of unimaginable magnitude. To each and every one of those people, it IS a big deal.

Instead of bitching about which disaster was "more-significant", lets rally behind these causes and do what we can to make people's tattered lives better. Something as small as going through your clothes and donating shirts and pants that have been relegated to the bottom of the drawer makes a huge difference for people who have lost everything they once owned.

Pittsford for me, just off Route 7. Escaped damage as we are on a hill. Only streams are two tiny runoff brooks from the ridgeline behind. Single mountain so runoff was limited.

Know many who live in Pittsfield and Killington. All my direct acquaintances homes were safe, but everyone knows someone who knows someone who lost everything to a stream that they could not have imagined becoming the raging torrent that it became.
