Magic Lantern Enables Movie Recording on Canon EOS 50D
Yea, no way you can tell a story with moving pictures with that resolution and frame rate. lol, discover channel will never buy your shit, they don;t accept anything less than gopro.
wait...what? i'd say for your average person who isn't filming action sports, 720p24p would be completely fine. sure 1080 would be nice, but a lot of web video players are still only 720, and 24p is an awesome frame rate. considering that it's just a photo camera that has been hacked to take video, 720p24p is pretty damn nice. however, if it really does only record for 3 seconds then it's pretty useless anyway. still cool though, awesome what they can do with ML.
To be honest I know shit about video, but I figured that, as most of the people on here are more focused on action sports, 24p wouldn't be really good. As in: a 550D is about the same price as a 50D. But if you already have a 50D it's a very nice extra of course.
And why is 720p 24fps all of a sudden good? (I mean, it ís good) Nikon has 'shit' video because it only films 24fps, which is 'useless' (according to eheath and the likes)...
I could be putting out a lot of rubbish here, but that's the view I've gotten from reading around here...
24p is generally what should be used when shooting anything, but action. If we're talking ski movies or edits, most lifestyle shots that aren't skiing would be shot in 24p
24fps is fine, you can film skiing at 24fps but its not the best for fast moving camera movements, it can look good in many situations. BUT 720p24 is kind of a bummer but if they could do this to my 40D Id prob give the hack a try but never as an A camera. IMO 60fps is needed for sports and almost every other fucking camera has 1080p24 so its kind of a "why bother ML? why only 720?" confusing at the least.
And indeed: It'd be cool if they could also do this on a/my 40D. I want to get into video, but I really don't want to give up my nice trusty, beautiful 40D for a 550D or 60D. Th 550D is small and a pita to handle and the 60D is just fucking ugly.
