Marker Griffon mounting track

So I just purchased a pair of Griffons and they came with a track for the heel piece of the binding to go on. Is this mandatory and/or necessary? I haven't seen this before and I'm just wondering if it is possible to have the bindings mounted without it, and if that is possible, what are the pros and cons of that?
