It will take a combination of wind and ridiculous quantities of snow, before any of these rocky man-eating fins will happen.

Have to wait and see what the winter brings? It could be a repeat of winter 09/10, or a complete washout like 10/11 with long periods settled weather and very little precipitation.

alaskan spines are made of snow, caused by wind and snow formation. They usually form around rocks, but the way you see spines in the snow is not the way the slope would look bare.

Alaskan spines are fucking wild. As nebula says, it takes a rare combination of maritime snow and wind to form them dreamy looking fins you find in AK.
