.mac...internet on apple

i'm prolly going to get a new powerbook and i don't know much about .mac...do any of you loyal mac users use .mac?...what exactly is it's purpose, what does it do? i saw that a part of it is virus protection but is it also an application to 'surf the web'? i guess my question is do you need it?...would i be better off using a different provider or service like earthlink, aol, etc...and getting antivirus software as well...or should i just use .mac? help me out guys...what's the story? thanks for any input.

it's pretty tight. they give you a big online storage space on their servers so you can backup to the web using iSync and get to your files from any computer that is online. it's a decent service. i use it.

you cant get a protection plan for 3 yrs which is the shit because then you can call the help service free anytime even if you mac freezes or some shit.... and then if it breaks send it in and they´ll fix it... iPod too.... but get the protection plan

so is .mac like an earthlink or an aol?...is it a browser or a different type of program?...and is it worth getting?...anymore mac users out there, what are you using for the internet?
