Older Manfrotto Tripods? Worth Keeping?

I've been in the market for a tripod for a while and plan on buying a 501 setup in October. But I was at my grandparents house and found an older manfrotto setup with 3001 legs and a 3021 head. Should I keep the setup and maybe buy a new head later or just buy a new setup?

In my opinion, vintage Manfrotto stuff is really nice! That was before Vitec bought them out and designated them as a low-end consumer name brande. If its the kind made with heavy duty materials, and the legs have no play, hold onto it!

For sure! My grandpa bought for a big telescope, let it sit in the living room for a few years the put it in a closet. Would it be worth buying a 501 head?

Although I generally don't condone Manfrotto heads, I will say that the 701, 501, and 503 are essentially the same (quality wise), so pick whichever size works for your payload. Who knows, maybe with those sturdy legs the heads might not be so bad!
