Tamron 17-50

I know there has been quite a few threads about the tramron 17-50 but I couldn't really find what i was looking for (sorry if it is in there somewhere)  but is the tamron 17-50 good and wide enough for follow cams on the hill? or is it just a good lens for using a tripod? And if its not good for follow cams on the hill is there another wide angle lens thats good for follow cams on the hill with nice quality for around the same price? thanks

it is good for follow cams on hill if its set at 17mm. the ideal lens for follow cams is the tokina 11-16, look into it

The tokina is almost twice as expensive though, the rokinon 14mm is about the same price

You can't use filters, manual focus only, I believe it has a manual aperture ring too. I've heard mixed reviews of it. other people on forums seem to like it, especially on a crop sensor, but TWoods was saying it sucks cause it has bad distortion. But if the choice was between the tamron and it, I would definitely go with the tamron cause it's basically wide enough for follows and it's a way better all around lens, a UWA is too specialized

I have the rokinon 14mm and i love it. I had a sigma 10-20mm and i like the rokinon much more. I dont really see any distortion and the manual focus and aperture isnt bad at all

If the sole reason your buying this lens is for follow cams well then buy the tonkina but if it's for other things too I'd buy the tamron. I own it and it's very sharp, great range, good in low light it's wide enough for follow cams. Your not going to get the insanly wide shots with it but at the same time you can't get great lifestyle shots with the tonkina either. The Tamron is more versitile, cheaper and will work for follow cams.

sweet thanks a bunch for your input and I knwo the non vc is sharper but does that make a bigdifference when filming or ust photography?

it wont make that big of a difference, other then the price. just get the non vc

Just photography, and it's not a big deal anyway beacuse even at 50mm you only need to have the shutter at 1/100 to not show shake. I went with the non vc
