During soccer, plantar has really inhibited my mobility. I have it in both heels, and it really sucks. I've been using inserts, doing calf exercises, and taking advil, but only minor progress has been made. Any other NSers with plantar? Tips? Does it affect skiing?
my bro has it and i thought it was in your arch but he wore insoles for all his footwear even his skates and hed stretch before doing anything...your physio therapist probably has some good ideas to
Do you have flat feet or high arches? Or are your arches 'normal'
Are both your feet effected?
Does it bother you when first getting out of bed in the morning?
I'm a 3rd year athletic training student btw.
Typically just footwear adjustments won't heal you. Combine them with anti-inflammatory meds like aleve, also stretching. If both your feet are bothering you the outcome isnt always so promising because the cause is likely to be from the way your body is put together.
"Prefabricated insoles, such as heel cups, combined with a stretching program are five times more effective in controlling symptoms than custom orthotics and stretching. Dorsiflexion splints may be used when the patient is at rest. These devices place the ankle in dorsiflexion to passively maintain the length of the triceps surae and the plantar fascia. Focused stretching of the plantar fascia yields better results than general stretching of the Achilles' tendon."
plantar fascia is basically connective tissue that connects ur calcaneal tendon to your toes, i cannot stress enough that stretching is sooooo important for this, strengthening of the uper leg muscles such as btu not limited to your soleus which inserts into the calcaneal tendon on the calcaneus and its action is to plantar flex ur foot. Strengthening this will help decrease pain as well as stretching it, medial gastrocnemius as well as ur lateral gastrocnemius will also help because they r also inserted into ur calcaneal tendon onto the calcaneus and help flex the lower portion of ur leg as well as plantar flex the foot. Medical taping may also help in which it supports ur calcanues, and individual strips of tape cut extending from the calcaneus tape onto each distal end of each toe, ultra sound will also help the pain decrease as well most likely on a lower level because it is not a deep muscle in ur body, but seeing a physical therapist will most def help ur pain relief. Ive been working as a PT aid for a while now, and am going to grad school in about a year to receive my DPT hopefully. hope that helps man
flat feet, i put 80% of my weight on my heels standing up. both feet affected. it bothers me most in the morning, and especially during exercise. running, especially sprinting, it hurts the most in the moment where im pushing off the front of my foot, as you do sprinting.
IT COULD BE YOUR SHOES MAN. I HAD IT FOR A WHILE BECAUSE I WOULD TRAIN FOR XC IN GOOD SHOES WITH ORTHOTICS AND SHIT, BUT THEN WHEN I'D WALK HOME, I WORE SHITTY FLAT SKATE SHOES WITH NO SUPPORT.
REALLY FUCKED UP MY HEEL/ANKEL FOR ABOUT 5 DAYS, BUT I SWITCHED BACK TO SOME RUNNING SHOES FOR WALKING HOME AFTER AND IT WENT AWAY.
AND IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY, GO TO A FOOT DOCTOR. I DONT KNOW WHAT THEIR CALLED BECAUSE MY PHYSIOTHERAPIST ALSO DOES FOOT STUFF, BUT GO TO A DOCTOR CAUSE IF YOU DONT GET IT FIXED YOUR SHIT WILL GET REAL FUCKED UP PROBABLY
It sucks man. I jumped off my bike and fell a good long drop to hard concrete. I guess my heals were already fucked up before, that did em in. They were just rapred.
I couldn't walk really at all. I sort of hobbled slowly for about a month before i could really rock out. Got some special custom inserts, let that shit heal. Pretty much good to go.
It sucked though. Seriously was getting passed by old people in walmart. Luckily I waited it out instead of killing myself.
i used to have some problems with this when i was younger and played soccer. get some arch support and try to stretch out you calf and achilles as much as you can..
