just applied to be a barback. i have alot of experience being a server and working as a runner, but will that help me get the job? also has anyone ever bar backed? how is it?
its fun man basically you are the bartender's bitch (its still fun though)..... you cut more fruit, restock fridges, and bus/clean glassracks..etc It pays okay but if you kill it you might get a shot at weekday bartending and so on and so fourth - thats what happened to me at least!
this. except it really depends on what restaurant it is.the one i work at the barbacks get like 15, sometimes 20% of the bartender(s) tips. so basically you make a shit ton when its busy. Its really not that hard if you dont get behind. and this guys right about bar tending and shit. you learn quick how to make really good drinks and how to mix stuff, and pretty much how to bar tend in general. if you just work hard you'll be fine and its such a fun time haha
haha how so? barbacks can make more than servers some nights. I've barbacked and come home with 200 bucks after 6 hours and thats just tips i get minimum wage too.. it all depends on what restauraut your at and how they do the tips. it varies so much you cant call it a shit job, maybe where you did it was haha
oh ive never done it, and im not judging, just said that based on all the people ive known who did it said it was just something they had to do on the way up to the position they wanted. nothing is a shit job if you enjoy doing it, i guess.
I've bar backed the last two summers in Vermont and it's a really good job. It's pretty tough when it's busy but definitely worth the effort. I'd say on a good weekend night I consistently made between 140 and 180 in tips for a shift that's 5.5-6 hrs long. Plus 7 dollars an hour. We get 20% of bar tips at the place that I work at.
