Today was my first day working on cs5. I have had quite a few problems already. When I import the video into cs5, I go to play it and its all choppy and really laggy. I have tried turning the resolution down, and that has not done anything. also, when i drag it into the sequence in the top right corner, the video is shown to be really zoomed in even know im on the "fit" setting. and it is also choppy and gets stuck on frames in the sequence also. I have an HP DV7 with 4GB of ram, 500gb hard drive running 64 bit and a II dual mobile M520 processor. +++++++K for help. i dont know if this matters, but i changed the sequence to DLSR because i hear it makes it run smoother, but it doesnt work either ways.

when first viewing videos on premiere, they will be mad laggy until they are out into the sequence. As for it being zoomed in, when you first open up premiere it will give you options as to what type of camera and what speed and res you are shooting at. Make sure you have the right option selected, or you will be zoomed way in or out. Hope that helps, anything else?

Did you choose the right timeline? If it was mad zoomed in, you were probably in the wrong one.
What camera are you filming with? The files that come out of it are mpeg2s?

i am filming with a canon t3i. i have fixed the zoomed in problem, but i have yet to figure out why they are laggy, even in the sequence they are.

Not true, the source video usually will play just fine.
Premiere doesn't like MPEGs. It has to convert them. I've been filming with a Z5U for school, and it's native output is MPEG2. On my Mac, Premiere has to index all the clips and add a little extension for each one so that it can read it. If your computer's slow, it'll have trouble.
When I was on a PC, I had lots of trouble with MPEGs. I had my GoPro shooting to MPEG and had to convert them all to .mov before I could use them, which was stupid and a hassle.
I would not recommend converting each clip to change the file extension - that's a bitch. That being said, I'm sure there's a better way. I don't know what that better way is, because I've never had to deal with that problem before, but I would suspect that I google search along the lines of "MPEG files in Premiere Pro CS5 PC" would help.
Good luck. I wish I could help more but my experience doesn't lend itself to your problem. If you have any other questions that you think I might be able to answer, shoot me a PM. I promise all my answers won't be as bad as this one.
