At the speed they're moving over the water it is EXTREMELY difficult to keep a board under your feet without bindings, and on waves that powerful I'd venture to guess that you really want to keep slipouts to a minimum...

fuck that shit. I surfed some 4-5 foot ways at waikiki in HI and fell and was scared I was never gonna stop spinning underwater. I can't imagine what its like to get tossed around by those fuckers.
