They couldn't do the contest today cause they're too big http://billabongpro.com/tahiti11/live-gb/ but they have a few skis towing people in. These are huge. You should probably watch, just to see a replay if anything.
http://billabongpro.com/tahiti11/live-gb/ if clicky fails.
i don't think paddling into a 20 foot wave is a good idea if it's even possible. you'll probably just get sucked up the face and then you'll be put through natures washing machine set on high.
you duck underneath them. with a shortboard its not too difficult as they have less flotation. thats why you never really see any guys with longboards on big days, its impossible to get out there
already happened. someone had to get stitches already. couple other guys are all cut up and bruised, now lots of guys have armor and helmets, a wise decision.
yeah a jet ski got pulled over today too. I'm sure it was destroy as well. the whole island is flooding too. one of the surfers said he saw a fridge floating around out there.
your an idiot, big wave guns are 9 foot plus and you cant duck dive them and thats the kind of length you need to catch a 15 foot + wave by paddling. the only reason these guys are on boards under 6 foot is cause there being towed and dont have to worry about paddle speed. The guy you quoted is correct, the reason they are not paddling is because these waves move so fast if you tred to paddle for one you would go over the falls everytime.
As the comentators have said these waves are 15 to 30 foot but that dosent do them justice you could park a 30 foot boat in those barrels and the thickness of the lip can only be compared to shipsterns as far as im concerned in thickness and scayness.
Im fucking loving it. If i was there i wouldnt even paddle out to the channel because i would shit myself!!!!
Did anyone see that clean up close out wave???? FUUUUUUCK being on those boats would have made me shit my pants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They're not riding guns though, they're on sub 7 foot stuff, shortboards. Somebody was on a 6'4". And the commentators were talking about duck diving these. They said you can't go too deep cause of the reef. And I'd bet all that water is hard to get under cleanly.
Thats cause yesterday it was max 10 foot and easily paddleable on that length. the bigger the wave the bigger the board you need unless your towing, thats the general rule. But also the steeper the wave a shorter board is more practicle. Hence why today is impossible to paddle.
And i heard about the duck diving thing, having 8 foot of white water roling towards you in knee deep water does not sound appealing.
