how the fuck does someone channel creativity? You either have it or you dont. Dont blame the school system cuz you suck at art or whatever ur trying to be creative with. Or go to a "Creative" private high school.

Well, it's hard to ski if you live in Florida. Can you go else where to ski? Yes. But, you can ski more often and on better terrain if you live in Colorado.

Schools can channel opportunities for kids to be creative. Whether it's projects, seminars, or other forms of assignments. Or they can just give tests out.

My school lets me be "creative" by paying for me to go to the local college and allowing me to learn my own way.

If your creative, your not going to allow a certain style of schooling to hold you back, just my opinion. My high school is in rural NY ( Think tractors, confederate flags, and red necks) and some friends from HS of mine are some of the most creative and artistic kids ive ever met. If you have it, you will overcome whatever obstacle is in your way, if not, its not meant to be.

It won't hold you back from creative, but school can limit how much creativity you put into learning.

I believe schools should focus on alternative options for homework, tests, etc. My school/teachers will often give you options of presentation for tests. Some do tests, others do essays, others do projects. This way students can present the information the best possible way for them. Even further, have alternate options for learning. Like going to college as a dual enrollment student or doing online classes. I find my school does a great job at allowing kids to be creative.

I used to live in upstate NY. 2:1 ratio for cows to people.

Also, artistic does not equal creativity.

To all of you who so obviously missed the point:

Creativity IS NOT just ART or MUSIC or any other form of creative expression.

In the context of this discussion, CREATIVITY IS THE ABILITY TO THINK OUTSIDE OF SET RULES AND BOUNDARIES.

This is why we aren't kissing China's ass right now, because the methods of education in this country are way better at allowing creative thought. China, on the other hand, is like a fucking factory (which is why their 8th grades know calculus). It's strictly memorization which does not promote entrepreneurship and other qualities that have allowed America to stay on top for such a long time.

Interesting talk for sure. The thing that sticks out in my mind most is the gillian lynn example, where he says someone would have "told her to calm down and put her on medication." ADD and ADHD are 2 super over diagnosed things in my opinion. It's too easy to just give someone pills when they can't pay attention to a math lecture or something, but I think most of the time it's just a matter of finding the right outlet to put their minds too, and unleashing the ADD/ADHD on that certain outlet. When you look at it stripped down, this is how most "creative" things come about, an overactive mind which produces a useful and unique solution to something because of it's inability to "calm down," for lack of a better way to explain it.

that doesn't make sense to me no matter how I look at it. NY was a Union state. why would they have Confederate flags? someone explain to me please. I live in Virginia and we have a couple Con flags flying around and it makes historical sense. but not NY

It's obvious the school you went to either A: failed you, and I don't mean in grades; or B: You're just one of those people that "don't have creativity". Add in your missing ability to think outside of your comfort zone plus the lack of an open mind, and sounds like your profile.
