So today I went to a bootfitter who put me in some full tilts (hot doggers) for the first time, and i thought they were amazing. they fit my feet really well, and he even heat molded the liners for me to try on, and i didn't even have to buy them right then, and it was a huge difference. after this experience, i don't know if i want to even ski in another boot. now, i'm on a budget, and cant pay 550 bucks for them. they are on sale right now (15 percent off, so $467) for the weekend, and they will be again sometime in october (when there are more sizes and stuff too) but the fitter told me if i didn't want to pay that much i could wait till the classics are in my size, buy them on sale, pay 30 bucks to put the shock absorbing bootboard in it, and save like 80 bucks (only $391 with the 15% off). of course, they won't have the pro liner, but otherwise would be pretty much the same. so ns, would it be worth it to hop on these hot doggers on sale, or go for the classics with the boot board. by the way, i'm 5'8 130 pounds and i'd be buying 28.5 boots. i don't think thats all that relevant in this case but i'll include it anyway.
Good idea actually. I'm in the same boat. If you do that, then you are only paying for the look of the hotdogger really. Do you want to pay $80 dollars for boots that perform the same way? I know I wouldn't. Go for it.
thanks. thats exactly what i thought too. i found a deal on them online in my size for 260 bucks, so thats good too. i also just pmed a guy about his '10 booters, and i'd just buy a new tongue if i go that route. i think they are a 98mm last rather than a 99mm one like the ones i tried on. i know this probably won't make a huge difference, but would i notice the difference of 1 mm? or will heat molding basically take care of that? i'm not worried they wouldn't fit, but i would hate to love the ones i tried on and buy some thinking they'd be great and have them not fit.
I could not answer that for you. If you think about it 1mm wouldn't make much of a difference but it really can. I you felt like you had a bit of room then the smaller fit would be fine. I'm not a bootfitter but that probably the only advice I can give you
well for me its not like i'm trying to be 'that guy' but i have a budget, and have other things to save up for that aren't ski boots. the hot doggers were great, but even at 15 percent off were still a lot of $$. i don't think anything is wrong with getting fitted at a shop and saving money by buying online.
thank you. when I was working in a bike shop, I was always asking if people were the kind of people to buy online, and if they were, I would not spend time with them. I hate when you give advice to them for free, and then buy something 15$ cheaper on the internet just because it's 15$....
Different liners will offer different fits and the difference in the foam thickness between those two liners is very noticeable. It is the same shell, but the Hot Dogger will be a better choice in the years to come.
Does anyone else think its rediculous that my shop sells this years hot doggers for $700?? I mean i know they have to make some kind of a prpfit but thats just absurd
Your shop is probably selling at full MSRP rather than MAP (minimum advertised price), which is what most shops actually sell boots for. Ask them why and then ask if they will offer you the boots at MAP.
except i'm saving 150 dollars. but no i do understand what you mean, it doesn't seem fair to the tech who talked over everything with me and gave me expert advice. I think when they have the next sale, i'm going to try on classics, and see if they fit as well as the hot doggers did, and buy those on sale. if there's something i don't like about the classics (even with the rubber boot board), i'll probably end up having to spring for some hot doggers.
