Quick iPhone sound profiles question, help a noob

good morning NS, what's good with all you finger blasters out there?


So I'm trying to set my iphone up for work, so that it will NOT make noise for texts or other alerts, but it will RING if somebody calls.

So basically silence all alerts, but still have it ring when I put it on silent mode. Is this possible? Google isn't much help and I can't believe I can't do it...there has to be a way.


the only thing I can think of is if I turned all alerts to silent, and left the ringer on.... but then when i'm not at work i'd have to re-do all the settings which is stupid.




help me out if you can, thanks guys

go into settings then sounds- here you change text tone, new voicemail, new mail, send mail, calendar alerts, all while keeping the ring-tone active....try it...

Yeah i did that, I mean I realize I can just set the text tone and alert tones to "none" and leave the ringer on and effectively accomplish what i'm asking. I just figured there would be some way to keep all the alerts silent and the ringer on as a default profile.

you can do that on blackberries, that's why i asked. couldn't believe i couldn't do it on my iPhone. oh well...

I understand what you are saying. I never thought about that till now, with an old phone I had, you could do that forsure. strange the iphone wont do that. To be honest, I haven't really missed or thought about it till now, I usually flip the switch on the side for viberate and have everything vibrate at work.

normally i do the same thing as you, but i miss calls a lot and since i'm looking for a new job currently it's kinda important i answer the phone for potential hiring managers and stuff.

oh well, i'll find a compromise. thanks for the help anyway man +k

i think you can, although ive never tried.

try setting all your alerts to either silent or vibrate. and leaving your ringtone on whatever you want.

then flick the switch on the side to vibrate, and see what happens.

This pissed me off for the longest time and still does. I took it into the telus place and they said there's nothing you can do about it. Which is really stupid, because its such a simple concept. So no, you cannot make it ring for calls and be silent/vibrate for texts and notifications. For every cool thing about iPhones, there's something else that they've completely fucked up on.
