Mounting a gopro

i dont personally own a gopro but a bunch of my friends do and they generally use the handlebar/seatpost mount

this.

And if your pole isn't wide enough for the "pole mount" just use duct tape and wrap around the pole until you have the desired width. This will also help with the mount sliding around on you.

1. find shitty pair of poles to use for when using the gopro.
2. buy a tripod mount for the gopro
3. drill a hole in your pole (lol rhymes)
4. find a 1/4 inch bolt and nut, and screw the nut to the bottom of the bolt, then put it through the hole (lol that's what she said)
5. screw the tripod mount on top of it, then tighten the nut at the bottom until the gopro will not move side to side or however tight you want it to be.
6. film people, make awesome edit

sorry if that was confusiing to read, but i think that's the best, cheapest, lightest way of doing it. tripod mount are like 5 dollars.

well if you want to do it for free, cut a pole in half. stick it in a vice so the end is flat, and superglue/ducttape the flat mount onto it. It works great for me, and i don't need to go buy some handlebar mount.

i had done that originally, but i ended up wasting a flat mount because:

-the end of the pole became to flimsy and bent easily, risking breaking
-it was hard to get entirely flat so the flat mount came unstuck
-i'd rather trust a nut and a bolt than some sticky shit

the handlebar mount breaks very easily in the cold

They also have a legit pole that has like a GoPro mount attached to the end, and it's extendable, but it's probably expensive. And I think it's made by GoPro, but I'm not sure.

If its made by gopro, I bet its overpriced. /:

thats what i did, it works alright.

I drilled a hole through a small block of wood. then Jammed an old ski pole through the hole and use the flat mount to attach to the wooden block. It's worked great so far and it didn't cost me a cent. But i have to agree that the handle bar mount is the most practical and easiest.

this explains how to make a useful ski-pole cam mount for a non go pro camera! but u can use this with a gopro if u but the tripod mount adapter and save urself from buying the handlebar mount!!

Your camera needs:
-rather small
-rather light
-have a standard tripod mount screw hole
-good cameras for this are: flip, playsport, and any other small and light camera w/ a tripod screw

You will need:
-unwanted ski pole


-small pipe-clamp


-a 1/4"-20 UNC tripod screw


-a camera w/ tripod socket


-a drill with a roughly 1/4" bit


-flathead screwdriver


-hacksaw or pipe cutter

or


-1/4"-20 nut or a couple washers

or


Procedure:

first u are going to want to cut the end off the pole, so there is no basket(this step is not nessesary!)

then put ur pipeclamp around ur pole and make sure it fits snugly with room to expand

then find a point about on the opposite side of the screw tightener on the clamp and mark that place to cut a hole.
next u will want to take the drill with about a 1/4" bit and drill out enough slits in the pipeclamp so that the screw can be put threw the hole.

you will then want to put the screw up from the inside of the clamp so the threads are on the outside.
it should look llike this:



the amount of screw sticking out of the clamp will mostlikley be too much for your tripod socket to handel.

you can solve this problem with either putting a couple washers inbetween the clamp and camera or use a single nut.

now you want to put the clamp on the pole and tighten it down. it should look somthing like this:



make sure that the clamp is tight enough so the screw dosent turn, but dont strip the clamp!

now ur going to want to put ur cam on.

if your cam is facing the wrong way when tightened down; losen the clamp and turn the screw the desired # of deg. for your prefered position.

you can tur the screw so the cam will face u or so it will face out and make for a easy way to hold smaller cams!

this pole cam can be used to film yourself or others!

here is what the final product should look like:



with this meathod there is no neec to make ghetto-rigs and use atpe and shit.

NOTE: if u are using a heavier camera i would suggest moving it twards the handel of the pole for better control!



use this and then get a tripod mount and it will work perfect!!!

i know this is an old thread, but an easy way to do it is to get an old pole, hacksaw off the pointy end so its the desired length, and clamp cut end in a vice, hard enough to flatten the tube, drill a hole in the flat part of the tube and slot it into the ridges on the bottom of a gopro where it normally connects to a mount, and put the screw through.
