Lense recomendation...

Camera: Sony a33

Budget: 850 bucks, the lower the better.

Main use: filming edits/every day use.

Any advice would be great!

Hey I have an a55. For 850 bucks if you want a zoom you could get the tamron 17 50 f 2.8 and a Sony 35mm Sam f1.8 . Or you could wait, Sony is bringing out a 16-50 2.8 in 2 weeks . This will be around 800. Or u could get a Sony zeiss 16-80 for the same price . Check out dyxum.com for reviews of Sony lenses . Personally I would get the tamron 17-50 and then a fast prime or macro lens . There are alot to choose from like the 35mm f1.8 or the 50mm f1.8 or the 30mm macro .

You can get vintage fast 50mm lenses off eBay for like 50 bucks all you need is an adaptor. ( 10 bucks) . I like the asahi pentax 50mm or the Helios 58mm. Also the old minolta f1.7 works without the adaptor as does autofocus . It is a minolta af 50 1.7 . Check eBay, craigslist etc.....

do some research before you do that as you might end up with a bunch of good lenses with ridiculous imperfections due to the adapter

I'd say: get nice old Minolta glass.
Pretty much all lenses can be adapted to Canon, because the mount is so big, pretty much the only one that isn't adaptable is Minolta, so make sure it fits your camera and can focus to infinity before adapting.

yes most lenses can be adapted to canon and the minolta is at the end
although the distance between the lens and sensore in canon is a little longer you can make the conversion by shaving off the minolta mount ( .28mm )
there is a guy over at fredmiranda ( camera forum ) that will do it for you

it is not the mainly the size of the mount but the distance from the sensore

Errr. Minolta af lenses fit on the Sony alpha with NO adaptor . But the MC and MD lenses do not fit without an adaptor with extra glass in it . These are more expensive and mean you lose some light and sharpness. Personally I would avoid minolta MC and MD lenses as well as Canon FD lenses, for the same reason .

Yeah, im stuck between the tamron 17 50 f 2.8 and the zeiss, but I think the tamron might be a little better for filming. what do you think?

I have heard of alot of people buying the tamron over the zeiss because of cost. I think the zeiss is twice the price and the build is so so . I would et the tamron and save some Money . Plus it has a fixed aperture unlike the zeiss .

Odds are the Tamron is better glass anyways. I don't know much about the Zeiss/Sony lenses, but i'd be willing to bet it's actually just cosina BS like the "zeiss" zf lenses. Not worth it.
