I dont get why it would be a problem if they did, i mean ya something significant happened there, but its not like everyone is going to forget about ww2 if they were to build on the beach. Seems like people let there feelings and nostalgia get the best of them a lot these days, but maybe im just an asshole.

Dude.

We all die, and we rot away. Every single person who died in the waters of Normandy, is gone. Fish food. They already have a memorial on the beach.

What more do you need?

Because you want the wind turbines, you just don't want them on a place where people died.  What if the 9/11 memorial wanted to incorporate a wind turbine on the roof- would it be disrespectful to incorporate this design feature?

There are a lot of places where people have died by the thousands that have things built on it.  Pearl Harbor, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, hell, fkn London.  Basically anywhere people are, wars were fought and people died.  I'm not avocating we pave the world but if we only built infrastructure where nobody had died, we'd be SOL.  I appreciate the sentiment but it's a little over the top imo.

I don't think I can explain my train of thought clearly on this issue without sounding like a complete tool.

Maybe it is disrespectful to those people's families, maybe not. Not everyone thinks about life and death in the way of "Here this person died, this spot is now holy and can't be disrespected in any way." Saying that, no, I don't think it's too cool to go knocking down gravestones either.

I just don't believe that, even on the beaches, something like this is disrespecting anyone's memory or battle. Either way, there already is a cemetery for fallen US soldiers overlooking the beach in Normandy.

If I were illiterate, I wouldn't BE ABLE to SEE that WRITING IN CAPS really shows you MEAN BUSINESS.

You cared enough to get angry in the first place, and you won't respond to mine or others posts thta it WOULDN'T EVEN FUCKING MATTER if the turbines were DIRECTLY ON THE BEACH.

I just sense some kind of weird entitlement of coming from the country that people who fought in Normandy died for. This is not a hoo-haa for any other US or other countries' members whose family lost someone there... I just feel that this one guy here has no reason to get angry over something that has not directly affected him in anyway.

I consider Canada as "British" in 1944...

1. Flag had a Union jack on it in 1944. No maple leaf yet. Pretty damn British looking.

2. Canada act passed in 1982. Before then, Canada still had direct ties to the UK parliament.

Therefore, Canada can be classified under "British" and it is not disrespectful.

1. it was actually the canadian red ensign that was used during the war. in world war 1 the union jack was flown. world war 2, while it had a small union jack flag in the upper left corner, it more resembled the flag of ontario as it is today.

2. the statute of westminster returned some sovereignty and personal identity to canada. this was done in 1931. and i believe it was 1867 that canada became a nation within the commonwealth.

we were a nation of the commonwealth with our own parliament. i belive that separates us from being lumped in as british.

As for the rest of it, yes - well aware it was still straight up CANADA, but I think my point is, that i'm not crying tears hearing Canada lumped in with 'British' in ww2 - especially being the allies were all winners! yay!

But they wouldn't be built on the graves of thousands of men... The graves of the people found and recovered for burial are on the hillside cemetery, get that into your fucking head.

It's a historic place, that's for sure, but just because people have died on some spot does not mean it's disrespectful to anyone to move on, build 'em a memorial (Check) and then maybe do something useful with the place. Don't you feel disrespected that some people sunbathe naked on the beach? That some people walk on the beach? Littering on that beach? Fuck on the beach, over the "graves" of those thousands of soldiers?

You can't just magically draw a line that it's building a goddamn turbine that's disrespectful and not worry about anything else.
