I'd like to say you're an idiot.

The Normandy beaches are UNESCO world heritage sites, the beaches will not be used for wind turbines. Off the coast of Normandy, about 5 miles out maybe used as a wind turbine site, which is a good idea.

Lets not use a valuable stretch of beach for the here and now because people died on the beach in the past...get real. I appreciate the sacrifices that the British and American soldiers made on that beach, but that was 70 years ago. Its time to move on.

May i just say, pointless thread is pointless. The uproar caused by anyone doing any form of building on that beach would be monumental. I think the french can culminate enough common sense to know that. Also beach structure is pobably too changeable to viably build something like a wind farm.

does anyone know how poor windmills are? they only produce electricity like 10% of the time, and have a very limited range of speeds they can run at. too low, they don't spin. too high, they have to stop them so they don't fall apart. without ridiculous amounts of government funding, there's no way they can stand on their own. my dad's company is working on some much smaller and far more efficient ones in collaboration with the guy who designed them.

If any of you are older than 18 or close to it, theres a larger chance than you'd like to think that it would have been you dead on those beaches 70 years ago. They gave their lives for you; the least we can do is not ignore that. (that being said if they're not on the beaches it doesnt matter, but see below.)

Also, wind turbines aren't nearly as beneficial as we'd like to think they are- I'm not some scream at the wall shoot a gun republican, but it's the truth-- they're often just a political move to show how "green" we are. Check the facts...

This isn't destroying the beach or disrespecting the dead... The war cemeteries are imo the real memorials, I've never seen such beautiful spaces before. Its spectacular to visit them, and so humbling at the same time. If you're ever in France both the cemeteries are a must see destination.

Really, wind turbines will not take up much space and will do some good for the country. If the men who fought on that beach were alive today, I'm sure they would be unimpressed by anyone opposing the use of clean, efficient power to serve the people they worked so hard to protect.

windmills are pretty stupid (like another member said, if it wasn't for the assload of government money being poured in to those things, they would hardly exist), but considering they wouldn't actually use WWII sites for the windmills means this shit is extra pointless.

those men died for freedom though. so things like this could happen. its just like how its disrespectful to burn an American flag but people died to protect our free speech so people can do things like that. they wont actually be built on the beaches and not all of the Beaches in Normandy were part of the invasion.
