Am I the only one who feels this way?

So:


Kids a total douche.

Gets drunk, drives, dies.

Everybody gets upset.

Nobody brings up the fact he was a dick.

If you bring it up you'll probably get beat up or some shit by his douche friends.

People make a "R.I.P" facebook group for him and post about him as if they were talking to him. As if somehow he could read what they're writing, and referring to him being in heaven.

The kids family is religious, but I'm almost sure he wasn't.

And even if he was he definitely wouldn't have gone to heaven.

A year later it's the anniversary of his death and they're still doing it.



What the fuck man? He's dead. Why are you trying to talk to him on facebook?
I mean... Am I a total dick myself for feeling this way? Or what? Cause this is pretty fucking stupid when I look at it.

maybe people felt different about him, for you he may have been the average d-bag, but for someone else he could've been a loving son or a boyfriend or bro for life, etc.....

meh, people fighting with grief often act unusual. I'm sure they know he can't read the facebook page, but it helps to let it out somewhere. Grief is very odd and everyone handles it differently.

this, its alright to not like someone even though they died, but its not good to tell that to other people. even if its true you shouldnt say that youre glad someone is dead to people who may have cared about him or are just sensitive to young deaths (as some people are).

I'm just saying why cant we say it how it is? That this kid wasn't some amazing person? I'm pretty sure everybody knew he was a dick. When someone dies there just seems to be this obvious "Say exaggerated nice things about them" trend. It's just lying though.

I'm sorry he died. I feel bad for the family, friends, and anyone else, but if you're going to pretend he was some perfect person with no flaws, and try to talk to him over facebook... Then fuck yourself. Seriously. Whats wrong with you?
Like... Go visit his grave and try talking to him if thats how you feel. Dont write him on fucking facebook.

I don't think he deserved to die. He never even did anything to me. He's just well known as a total dick. And I don't get why people are acting like he was flawless and perfect when he was flawed to the bone.

I just think. If we cant be real about someone, and need to lie about them once they're dead then fuck. That's stupid.

unfortunately i think a lot of people take an event like the death of a peer to boost themselves up socially. a kid committed suicide at my school this year, and for obvious reasons there was a lot of grievance and mourning and such which is a good thing; a lot of his friends and teachers were really upset about it. but i started noticing that some kids were crying and mourning who didnt even know him, and i heard a girl claiming to be his best friend when she very clearly was only an acquaintance. things like that i believe are absurd and extremely disrespectful, as if because the dead kid cant correct yo, other people will think youre taking his death harder because you were close to him, and they will give you sympathy.

i dont stand behind my theory that people take opportunities like that selfishly too much because if im wrong about that and just misunderstood the way people were feeling then thats very serious. but if i am correct, then yes i think OP is correct in suggesting that people should be honest with themselves, each other, and the person of late as long as it is still with utmost respect in mind.

I personally don't think drinking and driving is a big deal..

if you do it, you could

A- die

B- get a DUI

C- make it home and not worry about it.


i agree  if you die while drunk driving i really don't give 2 shits. your fault buddy, not really a big deal.

if your going to drink and drive at least don't be a retard about it. only do it durring the day, and stick the the back roads.....


to all that have died in DUI related crashes.. you lost.  not a big deal, you played with fire and lost.  get over it. loosers....

like on here you all feel bad when some douche gets in a coma for drinking and driving.  fag

this kid who used to follow me around high school annoying me and asking for weed all the time was found incinerated in his car on the side of the highway. my friends were all "R.I.P." and shit but i was and still am kinda glad the kid is dead. but when my friends say stuff like "i miss him" to me, i don't say "yeah well he was a douche and i'm glad he's dead," instead of being a douche myself i just don't say anything. i'm not gonna lie and tell everybody i liked the kid but i'm also not gonna be a complete asshole and tell everyone i hated him. he's dead, he's gone, he's not my problem anymore. let people grieve if they want to.

OP: You may think that the guy was an asshole, but I'm sure he had people that loved him dearly. Some people choose to remember him by writing and sharing stuff on facebook... hey, it's the modern world. You just need to show some respect because a. if it was your friend or a loved one you would be ripped if someone said something like you just did, and b. he probably had a good side that you never knew about. I had a really close friend that passed away my freshman year of high school and there is a facebook page commemorating him. Though I don't post comments there, I know many people who find comfort and release in doing so. To each his own, and you should really respect that.

kirbe... please do yourself a favor and go away. Talk to me when you've lost someone dear to drunk driving.

OP i have a childhood friend/longtime skiing buddy who was shot 7 times in the chest by his best friend

i'm dealing with the same situation.

I understand that some people have different ways to grieve, and I respect that.

but on the other hand I think it's a way to act out to try and attention whore. 'boo-hoo look at me my friend died i'm so sad' etc etc etc. it's hard to tell what is real grieving and what is a childish cry for sympathy. I dunno.

I am at peace with my buddy being gone so i just try to ignore the fb posts as best I can.

if my mother died because she was drinking and driving, yes I would be sad, but honestly her own damn fault she is dead, and I'ma try not and dwell on her own fuck up.

and if my family was killed by a drunk driver.

not guna happen, theres this thing called defensive driving. maybe you could all check it out.

it works by analyzing the drivers around you, and if someone is acting shady maybe get the fuck away, or hey maybe don't drive at night if your so scared of drunk drivers.  pussyz


I drive drunk daily, have never killed anyone, have never gotten a DUI, its not a big deal, just don't suck at it.

Honestly it might actually be easier on a survivor if the person they know was killed by a drunk driver. In the end though they are all dead just the same. At least with a drunk driver someone pays a price for it. I mean there is usually some kind of fault or blame to be thrown around in order to help the survivors feel somewhat better, but it's not really needed, it just helps with the grieving. My bro was killed by a drowsy driver at 8 am, but it's not like we tried to press charges for him being sleepy. Shit happened, we weren't looking for someone to pay for it though.

Your tires may be bald right now, it may cause a blowout on the highway causing you to swerve and kill a family in an SUV. You'll probably not be charged for it though. People will chalk it up to chance, "oh well the family was just in the wrong place at the wrong time" is probably what will be said. I am not trying to excuse drunk driving, but I think we're a little tougher on it these days than need be. I mean think of how many more people get in trouble for it now that it's .08 rather than .10, but is .02 really gonna make that much difference in you're driving ability??

I knew a guy from HS that served a decade in prison because he was drunk and operating a motorcycle and killed his passenger. The passenger was also severely drunk and knew the driver was when he climbed on. IMO that fault shouldn't be put on the driver.

It just makes it easier for the grieving family IMO, gives them someone to hate and something to blame the death on.

This kind of works the same but in reverse when someone dies doing something of their own choice. You always hear "well at least he died doing what he loved". You don't hear it said like that though when something they loved is something that is frowned upon. Maybe they loved doing heroin, playing the choking game, driving without a seatbelt, or freeclimbing. So it's damned and becomes a source of verbal abuse when someone passes by way of some activity that society deems unacceptable.

It's very odd how we justify or condemn events surrounding death. Also quite odd how sometimes the people closest to the deceased are either leaders or could care less about those judgements.

My group of friends were always responsible, never once as long as we all knew each other (grew up together) did one of us get behind the wheel intoxicated. As someone who has had to drive on the highway to get to school for the past 2 years at night, I have seen my fair share of accidents. If you are going to drive drunk and kill yourself, go for it, I dont care. Just dont take a family out with you in the process. You should probably reevaluate your social circle.

There is actually 8 of us. My parents dont drink and as far as idols go I dont really hold anyone to that high standing. Closest thing to an "idol" that I would have is probably Jimmy Pattison.

haha hey maybe theres a facebook in heaven or hell wherever he is probably hell the way you make it sound. But there is some good points in this thread, some one had to have liked him so dont disrespect them by saying your glad he died which your not but still. "To each their own. " but yea i hate when people make a facebook page in there memory thats some bullshit. Go to there grave or something like the "old days" is that so hard.
